Description
.@itith' Vtemes @anni @fnf GEORGE L. Gunner), or NEW HAVEN, coNNEc/TIGUT.
Letters Patent No. 63,1513, dated Merch 25, 1867.
.turnovrossD-BOTTOM;
TO ALL WHOh-l IT MAY CONCERN:
Bc it'known that 'L GEORGE L. GEIiA-Rmlnt' New Haven, in the county ofvNew Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new improvement in Spring Eeds; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection Awith the accompanying drawings, and vthe letters oi' reference vmarked thereon, to be 'a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specifica-tion, and represent, in
Figure l, a side view.
Figure 2, a top view; and in Figure 3, a section on line :L a1.
This invention relatcst-o an improvement in the manner of securing the springs of springdied bottoms, and consists in the peculiar manner ot' attachment, whereby the spring may be readily removed and changed to tiny position in the bottoni, or its tension adjusted. i v
To enable others to construct and usey my improvement, I will proceed to describe vthe saine as illustrated in the acconipanying drawings. v
lA is the spring, formed of l'lat or sheet steel. AB, the upper slat, attached to the spring in any conveniem manuel', generally running' longitudinally with the bed..k C is a transverse har, upon which the other or lower end ofthe spring rests. This lcwer end of-the spring-is slotted, as denoted by broken lines, fig. 2. D is a bolt, provided with a large head, E, nearly or quite large enough to `corel-the width ofthe spring. The said bolt passes through the bar C, and to its lower end is hinged av clamp-lever, F, which, when turned up, as denoted in lfig. 3, draws the head of the bolt firmly down upon, and so as to secure the spring rmly upon, vthe bar Q; and when, from any cause, it is desirable to remove or change the position of the spring, turn the Vlever down, as denoted in red, which releases the clamp from the spring, and permits its removal. By this arrangement thc spring, having its 'end slotted, -niay be sot farther under the head, so :1s to shorten and consequentlystiil'en the spring, and thus forms an adjustable spring. 'f v Y Ido not wishto be understood as claiming a iiat steel spring, as suchare common and Well known; but
'having thus fully describedmy invention, whatI do claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters' Patent, is-v The'coinbination ot' the clamp-.holgD with thel slotted spring A and the bar C, constructed so as to operate in the manner described.
