Be it known that MILO J. PARSONS, deceased, late of Hillsdale, Hillsdale county, Michigan, did during his lifetime invent a new and useful Improvementin Washing Machine; and I, MAR-Y E. PARSONS, of Hillsdale, as

aforesaid, administran-ix of the estate of said'MILo PARSONS, deceased` do hereby declare that the following l is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use theA saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of myimproved washing machine,'ta.l en through the line ma, iig. 2. My invention consists in the combination and arrangement of the crowned springs, Aflat springs or bars, und standards, by means oi' which the'rollers are suspended and held up against the stationary revolving cylinder in such a way that theycan adjust themselves tothe varying thickness of the clothes passingbetween them and the said cylinder. V

A is the'box or tub ot' the machine, which may be pon-de of any desired shape or size, and which is supported i upon legs, B, so as to be ata convenient height.V The bottom a of the box A is made of zinc, and has its middle part curved downward, as shown in fig. 1, to form a depression for the reception of the rollers, so that the clothes may more readily enter between them and the stationary tluted cylinder, beneath which they are suspended, C is a cylinder, the surface ofwhich is iluted longitudinally, as shown in thedrawings. The journals t of the cylinder C revolve in bearings at the bottom of vertical slots, formed in the sides of the box or tub A, as

shown in iig. 2 and in dotted lines in iig. `1. D is the crank, attached to the projecting end of one of the journals et' the cylinder C, by means oil-.which the machineis operated. E are ilat springs or barswhich rest upon the nppercdges of the sides of tub'l, and are'secured at their centres to small blocks, F, whieht into the vertical slots formedin the sides 'of the said tub, and form the upper or removable parts of the hearings for the journals of the cylinder C. The ends of the hars E are secured in place by the loops Gr,l which are pivotd to the prof ject-ing ends of the'side boards oi' the tub A, and are slipped oi'er the ends of said bars, as shown inig. Near the ends ot' Athe bars E are folined slots to receivetongues formed upon the ends of the crowned springs H.` The springs II arefcurved, as shown in tig. 1, and upon their ends are formed tenons or tongues that enterthc' slots in the bars E, so thattheir ends may move back and forthas the pressure upon the springs H varies. `I

The middle parts of the standards J are slotted, as shown in fig. 2,for the passage of-the journals of the cylinder C, so that the said standards may more up and down independently'of said cylinder.r L are. rollers,

pivoted to the lower parts of the standards in such positions as to correspond with-the curve of the cylinder C,

as shown infig. `M are narrow aprons, att-ached to the lower ends of the standardsd, as shown in fig. 1, to facilitate the introduction ot' the clothes between the rollers L and ilu'ted 4'cylinder C. By this construction the rollers L are enabled to adjust themselves to the thickness of clothes between them and the cylinder C, by compressing the springs H. It.will be'observed that by turning down the loops G, the rollers, cylinder standards, springs, and bars may all be removed from the tub A. t l

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters` Patent;- A

The combination and arrangement of the crowned or curved springs H, the bars or springs E, and standards J with each other, and with the box or tubA and cylinder C, substantially as herein shown and described.
