Be it known that I, PATRICK P. CAR-ROLL, of Washington, in the county of Washington, and in the DisL trict of Colun'lbia, have invented an Improved Table for lroning and general housework; and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View ofthe table.

Figure 2 is a vertical section of iig. l, upon the line Letters of like name and kind referto like parts in The nature of my invention consists in providing the ,top of an ordinary work-table with sliding sections, of

diiferent widths, which, when drawn out and properly supported, furnish suitable boards upon which to iron clothes, and, when replaced, become a portion of the top of said table, all of which gives increased convenience at a less expense than if, as heretofore, the table 'and ironing-boards were separate.

In the annexed chawings, A A, 85e., represent the legs and fraine of a table, as ordinarily constructed, the top of which is made oi boards, with their edges tongued and grooved, so that each alternate section, B, being secured t0 the frame, the others, C, may slide freely in .or out, as is desired.

For ordinary use,'three sliding sections, six, twelve,

and twenty-torn' inches in width, respectively, will be required, and may be made so that either side can be turned upwards, allowing one side to be covered with cloth for ironing, ,to be tuined downwards when the table is used for other purposes, so that it will, at all times, be kept clean'.

Secured midway between the top and bottom of each leg is a horizontalslide-bar, provided with suitable guides F, secured to the frame of the table, allowing said bar to slide in or out with the leg for which it furnishes support.

It will be readily seen that if one ofthe sliding sections, 0,be drawn nearly out, and its outer end supported by one of the legs D, an ironing-board is provided, which is far more steady and convenient than those ordinarily used, which niust be placed upon theA y backs of chairs, or' upon other furniture.

The advantages clailned for this improvement are, that it furnishes a complete work-table and set of ironing-boards combined, (without materially increasing the bulk of the formen) whereby greater convenience is secured, and less expense necessary than if, as heretofore, they are separate.. i

A combined ironing and work-table, consisting of the sliding parts C C C, and supplementary legs D D, in'emnbination with a table of the usual form and construction, substantially as herein shown and described.
