TO ALL PERSONS4 TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS'MAY'COME:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. BACALL, of Boston, in the county of Suiolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Commode Bedstead; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings,.of which- Figure 1 is a top view of it with the bedstead extended from the commode or case.
Figure 2 is a vertical and longitudinal section of it under like circumstances.
In iig. l'the head-frame of the bedstead as well as that part of the body-frame which extends intothe case is represented in dotted lines. i
Figure 3 is a front elevation, and
Figure 4 a transverse section of the case as it appears when the bedstead is folded into it.
In these drawings A denotes the case of the bedstead, such case being made like an ordinary commode or cupboard, except that it has no shelves within it, and it has its door or`front part B hingedor connected to it so as to he capable of being turned from a vertical position in the door opening down into a horizontal position, as shown in figs. I and 2. The door part B is provided with check-pieces a a, which project from its inner surface at the edges thereof, and are arranged parallel to eachother. Through each of the said cheek-pieces a, a screw, b, is passed and screwed into the next adjacent sidelpece of the commode or case A, the same being so as to support the door part B, and enableit to be turned on'such screw.' The door part B may have acommon lock, c, applied to it for holding it in position when the case is closed by it. To the upper or outer end of the door B, a supporter or bar, C, having two or any other suitable number of legs d, extending from it, is connected by hinges, as shown at e e, the same being so as to enable the supporter C with its legs to be turned from a vertical position against the ends of the cheek-pieces a a down into another vertical position, as represented in fig. 2, in which latter position it will act as a support for the .part B. At its inner end the part B has a ledge, f, raised on and across it, there being hinged to the ledge a head-frame, D, which when turned back on the top of the ledge, will aid in supporting a bed or mattress' when laid on it, the part B and an auxiliary -frame E. The said frame E, composed of two cheek-pieces h L, and aser-ies of connection-bars z' it', has a legged supporter F, hinged to its front part or bar, and is connected to the cheek-pieces of the part E by hinges, as shown at k k. The bed foundation or bedstead thus made or composed of the door part B, the head-frame D, the auxiliary frame E, and their supporters and legged bars' C and F, may be folded together and into the commode or case in manner as represented in iig. 4.
I am aware that it is not new to have a bedstead combined with a wardrobe or case so as to be capable of being moved into and out thereof. Therefore I do not claim such as my invention.
I claim the folding bedstead or combination of the head-frame, the door part B, and -the auxiliary frame E, arranged and connectedtogether, and with the case A, substantially as specified.
I also claim the combination of the legged supporters C and F or their equivalent, with the door part Br and the auxiliary frame E, arranged and connected together, and-with the case A, as specified.
I also claim the combination of the head-frame D, the door part B, the auxiliary frame E, and the supporters C F, arranged and connected together, and with the case A, substantially as described.
WM. K. BACALL.
