DRElVRY JACKSON RHODES, OF COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA.
NAPKIN RING AND HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 612,529, dated October 18, 1898.
Application filed May 1,1897. Serial to. 534,730. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DREWRY JACKSON RHODEs, of Columbia, in the county of Rich land and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkin Rings and Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to napkin-rings, and has for its object the provision of a simple, cheap, and eitective construction of a combination napkin ring and holder.
The invention consists in a device of this character constructed of spring metal formed with a ring or loop designed to receive the rolled-up napkin, and oppositelydisposed spring-clamps, one of which is adapted to be utilized for securing the device to the coat of l the wearer and the other to engage and hold the napkin and support the same in position.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a napkin supported by two napkinholders embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows a side view of the device, and Fig. 3 a plan view of the same.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numerall designates a combination napkin ring and holder which consists a ring or loop designed to receive the rolledup napkin. The two ends of the loop are approximate or meet at 3, and thence extend and form a spring-clamp 4, which is intended to confine the coat-lapel at the point of fold between it and the ring,"as shown in Fig. 1.
The extremities of the band or strip are then bentat 5 and project in a reverse direction to form an upper clamping member 6, which is adapted to receive the end of the napkin 7 and clamp the same between it and the lower clamping member, as shown.
In'practiee two of these napkin-holders are employed, one being secured to each coatlapel, at the point of fold thereof, and the two holders serving to support the napkin in the proper position upon the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A combination napkin ring and holder, consisting of a strip or band of spring metal formed with a ring or loop to hold the rolledup napkin, and two adjacent and parallel clamps one adapted to engage the coat-lapel and the other to receive and hold the napkin, substantially as described.
2. A combined napkin ring and holder consisting of a strip or band of spring metal having its ends approximated to form a ring or band to receive a rolled-up napkin, and hav-' ing said ends extended parallel with the ring 7 portion to form in connection with the ring a clamp, and bent and extended in the reverse direction to form in connection with the extension a second clamp, substantiallyas de scribed.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
'nsnwav JACKSON nnonns.
