Description
(No'ModeL) Y. E. HOLLOWAY. TROUSERS LEG FOLDING DEVICE.
No. 573,784. Patented Dec. 22, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
YOUNG EDW'ARD HOLLOWAY, OF WOODLAIVN, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN EMORY BERKSTRESSER, OF SYLAOAUGA, ALABAMA.
TROUSERS-LEG-FOLDING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 573,784, dated December 22, 1896.
Application filed February 11, 1895. Serial No. 537,891. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, YOUNG EDWARD HoL- LOW'AY, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVoodlawn, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Leg-FoldingDeVices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of devices used on the trousers-legs of bicycle-riders to prevent the trousers from getting entangled with the pedals of the bicycle; and the objccts of my improvement are, first, to provide a trousers-folder of neat and small dimensions that will be simple and cheap to manufacture, which can be readily attached to any trousers-leg, and will fold the trousers in a neat manner on the inside of the leg; second, to provide a device to fold or decrease the size of the trousers-leg near the shoe of bicycle-riders without clamping or pressing on the leg of the wearer, which will fold the trousers without presenting an unsightly appearance, and cannot be seen from the outside of the leg. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my trousers-folding device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, on a reduced scale, of the bottom of a trousersleg with my device attached before making the fold. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same after making the fold.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The device or folder, as shown in Fig. 1, can be formed from any metallic wire, or it can be formed by stamping the device from any suitable sheet metal to the form. as shown.
The folder consists of two legs A and 13, formed on the outsides of the device, the legs connected by a loop O, formed, as shown, in the center. The loop O is preferably made larger at the top than the bottom, in the form of a dovetail, to prevent the folder from slipping out when attached to the trousers-leg, but any like modification of the form shown will answer the purpose for which it is intended.
To use the device or attach the folder to the trousers-leg D to form the fold in the said trousers-leg, the folder is first placed on the seam of the trousers D, as shown in Fig. 2, the legs A and B of the device on the outside and the connecting-loop O on the inside of the trousers-leg.
To form the fold E in the trousers-leg, as shown in Fig. 3, the device is folded or turned over to the. right, carrying the cloth with it and inclosing the folder between the cloth on the inside of the fold. To secure the fold as made in the cloth, the leg A of the folder is slipped on the inside of the trousers-leg, as in Fig. 3, which secures the fold in the cloth and holds it in that position until released by the removal of the folding device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, is-
A trousers-legfolding device, consisting of a center member 0 of a dovetail form, two vertical legs A and B curved outwardly and upwardly from the center the legs having their points curved outward, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
YOUNG EDWARD IIOLLOIVAY.
IVitnesses LEO K. STEINER, A. J ONES.
