Be it known that I, AxEL OHE BERG, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trousers-Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Trousers-hangers as heretofore constructed have, as a usual thing, either been too complicated for general use or have failed to provide means for supporting the garments in a proper manner.

The principal objects of my invention are to construct a trousers-hanger in such a manner that although the trousers can be held in natural and proper position, yet the construction will be simple and there will be few parts liable to easily get out of order. 1

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a trousershanger embodying the principle of my invention and showing how the trousers are supported thereby. Fig. 2 is a sectional View on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the device.

The hanger comprises a main bar or body 10, adapted to extend throughout the length of the top of the trousers to be supported by it. Upon this bar are a series of devices for engaging the buttons of the trousers and supporting them.- I I have shown these in two forms, one, 11, being fixed to the main body or bar, and the other, 12, being formed with a strip of material 13, surrounding the bar and slidable longitudinally thereon. The bar is provided with stops 14 for limiting the adjustment of these button-holding devices. The way in which the buttons are held is illustrated in Fig. 4 and comprises a projection extending downwardly This slot is preferably tapered, being smaller at the lower end than at the top to provide for easily allowing the buttons to slip in, and the top of the projection on each side of the slot is preferably rounded for the same purpose. engage the buttons, and part of them being adjustable they can be placed in such position that the buttons will naturally assume a condition with respect to the trousers such that no drawing or pulling of them is rendered necessary, and the trousers will assume a natural position, so that they will retain their shape.

The parts so far described support only one side of the trousers, and in order to provide for supporting the other side a series of clamps are provided. These clamps are also of two kinds. The first kind is represented by the numeral 17. These clamps comprise a main plate secured to the rear of the body of the hanger and extend over to the other side in the form of a resilient projection 18. A tongue 19 is pivotally connected at a point 20 with the main part of the clamp .17, and the tongue 18 normally bears upon this part. This affords a spring-hinge, which will hold the tongues 19 in such position as to securely clasp the front portion of the trou sers and hold them against the hanger in an obvious manner. It will be understood that any desired form of a spring-hinge, such as those now on the market, can be employed for retaining the clamp in operative position. The hanger is provided with as many of these clamps as may be desired; but two of them are usually sufiicient when a third clamp 21 is provided. This clamp consists merely of a resilient bow having two tongues 22 adapted to pass over the body of the hanger and clasp the trousers in an obvious manner. It is preferably capable of a wide range of movements, so as to provide for hanging trousers of different widths, and yet is preferably connected with the hanger so that it cannot be lost. I have shown a chain 23 for permanently connecting it with the hanger and yet allowing this movement.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A trousers-hanger having means for engaging buttons on the trousers to be supported, and means for clasping the top of the trousers; said last-named means comprising a pivoted tongue adapted to engage the trousers, and resilient means for holding the tongue against the trousers.

2. A trousers-hanger having a body, a clamp extending upwardly therefrom, a pivoted tongue depending from the clamp for engaging the trousers, and resilient means on the clamp for at all times forcing the tongue toward the body to clasp the trousers.

3. A trousers-hanger having a clamp provided with a depending pivoted freelyswinging tongue, and a resilient tongue integrally mounted on the clamp and adapted to engage the pivoted tongue to yieldingly and constantly hold it in position for engagement with the trousers to be supported.

4:. A trousers-hanger having means for engaging buttons on the trousers to be sup ported, means for clasping the top of the trousers, said last-named means comprising a series of clamps each having atongue adapted to engage the trousers, and a bodilyremovable spring-clamp adapted to pass over the body of the hanger.

5. A trousers-hanger comprising a body, a clamp member extending upwardly therefrom and rigidly connected with the body, said clamp member having a laterally-projecting resilient member provided with a downwardly-extending tongue, and a second tongue pivoted to the clamp member and depending therefrom, the first tongue engaging the second tongue at all times and forcing it yieldingly toward the body of the hanger.
