MARSHMALLOW-RUNNER.

Be it known that I, RALPH W. DOUGLAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Marshmallow-Runners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in machines for the running of the confection known as marshmallow and it consists of a waterproof bag, a metal runner having a nozzle with two or more outlets, and a cutoff attachment consisting of a metal slide by which the confection as it protrudes from the outlets of the nozzle may be out off and the principal object of my improvements is to provide a device, that will enable a person to run a much larger amount of said confection in a given period of time than can be otherwise done. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in WlliOh- Figure 1 is an elevation, Fig. 2 is a transverse section, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, of the cut-off attachment of my device. Fig. 4 is alongitudinal sectional view of the device with the bag omitted. Fig. '5 is a top View of the plan of the device, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the machine in operation.

My invention consists of a waterproof bag A, preferably of cloth lined with rubber, and a metal runner 13, having a'nozzle with two or more outlets O O, with a cut-off slide D, which cut-oif slide has two or more openings E E in the bottom, the number corresponding with the number of outlets of the nozzle. At the top of metal runner B, on the outside, is a flange F, and another flange H just below. The lower end of ba A, having preferably its edge turned inward,inclosing a cord with ends to tie, is slipped over flange F and held in the depression formed by and between flanges F and H by another cord wrapped around or a metal band with screw attachment for tightening. On each side of the nozzle with outlets C G a strip J is rigidly fasten ed, each having a flange K, in which the turned edges L L of the cut-off slide D are held and operate. Ahandle M has its upper end rigidly attached to the runner B just below flange H and its lower end rigidly attached to strip J. A spring N, having its upper end rigidly attached to metal runner B, has its lower end hooked in loop 0, which loop is rigidly attached to cut-off slide D. A lever P rests upon a fulcrum R, attached to side of metal runner B. The lower end of the lever works in a loop T, which loop is rigidly attached to cut-off slide D.

When my device is not in operation, cut-off slide D will be held by spring N in the position shown in Fig. 1, in which case the outlets C O of the nozzle will be against the bottom of cut-off slide D between openings E E. When in operation and the top of lever P is drawn over toward handle M, as shown in Fig. 6, openings E E are thrown directly under outlets C O of the nozzle, and the marshmallow material in bag A and metal runner B is pressed down through outlets 'G C of the nozzle by pressure of the other hand of the operator, which grasps bag A. When sufficient of the material is pressed out of the outlets of the nozzle, the marshmallow is simultaneously cut off from the outlets of said nozzle with cut-off slide D by the hand of the operator, which grasps handle M and lever P, releasing said lever and permitting spring N to carry cut-off slide D back to the position shown in Fig. 1.

WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination in a marshmallow-runner of the waterproof bag A, metal runner B having projections or flanges F and H and nozzles O 0, strips J J having flanges K K, cut-off slide D having openings E E in bottom and turned edges L L to operate in the flanges K K, spring N and loop 0 and lover P pivoted on fulcrum R and engaging the loop T on slide of the runner and handle M, by which to operate said slide, substantially as, and for the purposes set forth.
