Description

@eine gti/'nihil 7S/tanze @matite T. LA ROY, OF RICHMOND, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 83,976, dated November l0, 1868.
IMPAROVED MACHINE FOR BUNDLING- WOOL.
The Schedule referred tn in these Letters Patent' and making part of the same.
To all whom it 'may concern;
Be it known that I, H. T. LA ROY, of Richmond, in the county of McHenry, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Bundling Wool; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the artto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l represents a sectional elevation of my improved machine, with a quantityof wool placed on it to be bundled;
Figure 2 represents the .same elevation, with the wool formed into a bundle; and
Figure 3 represents a plan View of my improved machine.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and effective machine for compressing wool and other similar articles into bundles, to be tied.
`It consists of a table, the top of which is made in sections, the central and corner sections being secured to the table, while the four sections between the corners are hinged tothe central section, and connected by levers and a belt to a foot-lever, so arranged that bythe application of pressure tothe foot-lever the said movable sections will be folded up like a fboX, enclosing and compressing the wool, or other article, which is placed on the table, in a compact bundle, which may be tied by cords, previously laid across the said movable sections.
A represents the top of a table, Which is divided into sections. The four corner sections, o, and the central section, 11,' are secured to the table, and the side sections, c c, and end sections, :l d, are hinged to the centralsection b.
B represents a vertically-sliding ii'ame, composed of four arms, converging at the centre, and provided with guide-rods, D, From each of the said arms, near their outer ends, rise connecting-rods, E, which are jointed to the said rods and to the hinged sections c and d.`
Near the centre of the frame B, 'a belt, F, is con nected to it, which rises up to the top of the table, and then passes overa pulley, and running over another pulley, at one side of the machine, is attached to a foot-lever, G.
One of .the sections, d, is provided with a yoke, H, by which they are connected together after they are folded up.
The wool, or other article to he bundled, is placed on the table, when it is in the position shown in iig. 1, cords having been previously laid thereon, when the operator, by applying his foot to the lever G, will fold the movable sections up into the position shown in fig. 2, compressing the wool into, a compact bundle. Then, by means of the yoke, which is provided with a hasp, I, he can secure the sections in that position until he can tie the conds together, when, by restorl ing the sections to their original position, the bundle may be removed.
The edges of the movable sections are provided with notches, to hold the cords by, vthe latter being pressed into them.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Ihe arrangement, herein described, of the hinged sections c el, the fixed sections c b, connecting-rods E, four-armed frame B, guide-rods D, the belt F, lever G, and yoke H, all operating as shown, for the pur pose specified.
H. T. LA ROY.
