G. A. MOSS. GLOVE ATTACHMENT.
No. 586,139. Patented July 13, 1897.
UNrrnn STATES GEORGE A. MOSS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
GLOVE ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,189, dated July 13, 1897.
Application filed October 5, 1896.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. Moss, a citizen of the. United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove Attachments and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful glove-fastener attachment, which consists in the arrangement of parts and details of construction, as will be hereinafter fully set forth in the drawings and described and pointed out in the specification.
The invention is more especially designed for use in connection with that class of ladies gloves wherein the flaps of the wrist-opening are joined together by means of that style of fasteners or fastening-buttons fully shown and described in Letters Patent of the United States No. l05,179, granted to P. A. Raymond June 11, 1889.
Where the flaps of the wrist-opening of the glove are united by means of the class of fastening-buttons set forth in the aforesaid Letters Patent No. 405,179 it often happens, owing to the difierence in the wrist measurement, that one or the other or both fasteningbuttons of the glove cannot be united. Hence the said button or buttons have to remain unfastened, although otherwise the glove may be a perfect fit, consequently leaving that portion of the wrist of the wearer of the glove exposed. This is a disadvantage and a de cided drawback to the sale of this style of gloves, for the buyer does not care for the glove unless the wrist-opening can be closed its full length. Owing to this defect a number of gloves remain unsold, which, if the wrist-opening could be properly closed, would otherwise be disposed of. Theobject of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive attachment, which may be given away, for uniting or joining such of the fasteningbuttons as cannot, owing to the size of the wrist, be fastened in the usual manner.
In order fully to comprehend the invention, reference must be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the wrist portion of a two-button glove, the lower button being shown fastened together and the upper Serial No. 607,848. (No model.)
button open and joined by means of the at tachment. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken 011 line 00 m, Fig. 1, showing the sections of the upper fastening-button united by means of the attachment; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged top plan View of the attachment.
In the drawings the letter A is used to represent an ordinary two-button ladys glove, and A A to represent the flap or wrist-sections thereof. To the section A are secured the spring-studs B, and to the section A is secured the embracing button-eyelet B,which eyelet engages the spring-stud in order to unite the flap or wrist-sections together.
Where it happens, as shown in Fig. 1, that the sections of the upper fastening-button cannot be united owing to the size of the wrist, the upper portion of the glove must be left open. In order to provide against that portion being left open, I connect the sections of the fastening-button by means of the plate or strip C. To one end of this plate or strip is secured the spring-stud O, which engages with the embracing button-eyelet B, attached to the wrist-section A of the glove, and to the opposite end is fastened the embracing button-eyelet G which engages with or covers the spring-stud B, attached to the wrist-section A of the glove. When the attachment or fastening plate or strip is thus attached to the fastening-button of the glove, the wrist-sections will be as firmly secured together as though the sections of the fastening-button were interlocked or fastened.
The plate or strip 0 may be made of metal, leather, or other elastic material, and, if desired, may be colored to correspond to the color of the glove.
Inasmuch as the device is designed to be given away with the gloves the name and the address may be stamped upon the plate or strip 0, the device being thus made to answer as an advertisement for the house selling the gloves.
I make no claim to and I do not Wish to be understood as claiming the fastening-button of the glove. I make claim only to the attachment for uniting the wrist-sections where the size of the wrist renders it impracticable to unite the sections of the fastening-button.
Having thus described my invention,what
I claim as new, and desire to secure protection in by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a glove,of the springstud secured to one side and the embracing button-eyelet attached to the opposite side of the Wrist-opening, of a plate or strip having connectedto one end thereof an embracing button-eyelet which engages with the springstud secured to one side of the Wrist-opening of the glove, and of a spring-stud secured to the opposite end of the plate or strip which en gages with the embracing button-eyelet secured to the opposite side of the Wrist-opening of the glove.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses, this 28th day of September, 1896.
GEORGE A. Moss.
