To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM-A. JOHNSTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at I'Iomer, in the parish of Claiborne and State of Louisiana, have invented'a new and useful Spectacle-Oase and Holder for Pencils, Pens7 and the Like, of which the following is a speciication.`
rlhe invention relates to improvements in spectacle-cases and holders for pencils, pens, and the like.
The object of the present invention is to4 provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient holder adapted to be readily and securely attached to a vest-pocket or the like and capable of receiving a pair of spectacles, a pencil, and fountain-pen, or a thermometer or other small article. A
A further object of the invention is to provide a device which will hold its contents in a convenient position and which cannot become accidentally detached from the wearer.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings,'and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a spectacle-case and holder constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2

l designates a spectacle-case consisting of a paper body and provided with a covering 2,
of morocco or other suitable material, and4 the cover is provided at opposite sidesiof the spectacle case with tubular receptacles 3, adapted to receive a pencil and fountain-pen or a thermometer or other similar-shaped article.
The spectacle-case is attached to the vestpocket of the wearer, or to any other pocket, if desired, by a clasp 4, constructed of sheet metal or other suitable material and consisting of a back 5 and a jaw G. The back is provided in its upper portion with opposite cuts to provide a resilient tongue 7, and it has at opposite sides of the tongue eyes for the reception of a pintle which hinges the a lug 8, having a perforation to receive the pintle and projecting beyond the jaw to form a heel for engaging the resilient tongue, whereby the jaw is securely held in its closed position in engagement with a pocket. The jaw is provided with spurs or projections l0 to engage the clothing to prevent it from slipping out of the pocket of the wearer. The back of the clasp is inserted through a slot or opening ll of the covering of the spectaclecase, and it is provided at its lower portion with circular openings l2, engaging enlargements or projections l2, formed onthe surface of the spectacle-case and consisting of integral portions of the paper body. These projections interlock with the perforations and prevent the clasp from slipping outward and strengthen the device, and the back,which is slightly curved to conform to the coniiguration of the spectacle-case, is provided at the base of the tongue with a spur or projection 13,'engaging the covering of the spectaclecase to lock the clasp against any outward movement tending to withdraw it from its position between the covering and the spectacle-case.
It will be seen that the combined spectaclecase and holder is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it is especially adapted for physicians and the like, and that it is capable of receiving apair of spectacles, pencil, pen, or thermometer and of holding them in convenient position for use, and that it may be rea'dil y applied. to the vest-pocket of the wearer and is securely retained in this position.
Chan ges in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any advantages of the invention.
