Ink/Eh] J m 04w %%-um UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
ISAAC G. POLLARD, OF SUNVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
CAR-TICKET OR STAMP BOX.
.TfiPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 320,814, dated June 23, 1885. Application filed March 27, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC G. POLLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunville, in the county of Venango and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oar-Ticket or Stamp Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in cases to be carried in the pocket to contain cards, tickets, matches,or like objects, and has for an object to provide simple means by which the cover may be securely held in place on the box or body of the case.
The invention consists in certain constructions and combinations of parts, whioh will be described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the box. Fig. 2 is aperspective View of the cover inverted, and Fig. 3 is a Vertical section of the case.
The box A may be provided with indentations a, to furnish a better grip in removing the cover. This box has its upper end separated by corner slits B into sections 0 O and D D, usually four, and one or both ofthe sections of each pair are given an outward tension by bending them out, .or in other suitable manner, so as to bind firmly within the cover and hold the same by frictional contact, so that it will not become accidentally detached in the pocket, and yet may be conveniently removed when desired. The sections 0 G are cut away at G O to permit access to cards or tickets in the box.
WVhile the spring of the sections will give good results, I prefer to employ the positive connections for the box and cover, which I will now describe.
One of the sections D is provided on its outer side, near its upper or movable end, with a stud, d, which enters a recess or opening, 6, formed into or through the cover E.
By this construction, when the cover is applied, the stud 61 will enter the recess e and will lock the cover 011 the box until the stud is released, either by pressure on the lower end of the section D or on the stud itself, for which latter purpose I form the opening 6 entirely through the end of the cover. The cover may also be provided with indentations a, to furnish finger-holds for the user in applying and removing the cover. W'hen desired, the box may be provided at the base of sections 0 D with a shoulder or rib, a, to form a stop for the cover.
The invention is simple, and the box and cover may be stamped out or otherwise made at a slight cost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pocket-case herein described, consisting of the box divided at its open end by slits B into sections-G C and D D, said sections being given an outward tension, astud,d, near the upper end of one of the sections, and the cover having a recess fitted and arranged to be engaged by the stud d, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC G. POLLARD.
