LUDWIG WENDT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,217, dated April 22, 1873; application filed January 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUDWIG WENDT, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Pocket-Books, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to combine, with a pocket or memorandum book, a receptacle for a variety of handy articles-such as a comb and glass, penknife, tooth picks, needles and thread, &(3.Withil1 which the said article shall be securely confined until required for use.
This object I accomplish in the manner shown in the perspective view, Figure 1, of the accompanying drawing, by providing the pocket or note book A with an extra end flap, B, or by converting one of the ordinary flaps into a receptacle for the articles required, the said flap being separated into compartments for the reception of such flat articles as a glass, a, comb b, pen knife d, toothpick e, and needles and thread, the latter being concealed by a slide, f.
As it is essential that the articles shall be securely retained within the receptacle, so as to prevent their disengagement and loss when the pocket-book is carelessly handled, I propose to hinge the outermost portion B of the flap to the main portion at h, as shown in Fig. 1, so that when raised and locked to the main portion by means of a catch, 1', or equivalent device, as illustrated in Fig. 2, it shall effectually prevent the removal of any of the articles, the barrier being removed, however, when the said hinged piece islowered as seen in the perspective view.
I claim as my invention 1. A supplementary receptacle or flap, B, adapted to receive and retain articles for toilet use, and connected to and forming a part of a pocket-book, A, as set forth.
2. The said flap B, constructed substantiaL ]y as described, with a hinged portion, B, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUDWIG WENDT.
