Abstract

A compact wallet for credit cards and banknotes that has a coin pocket 6 attached to the end of the note pocket 1, such that the coins may be accessed by opening the wallet and then tipping the coins into the note pocket area. Credit cards may be retained in pockets on the outside of note compartment 5a, 5b, 5c. When folded the coin pocket is on the inside of the wallet, retaining the coins in the pocket until needed.

Description

Compact Wallet with Coin Pocket This invention provides a specific and innovative solution for elegantly keeping coins in an easily accessible manner, in a compact wallet along with banknotes and credit cards.
Compact wallets can be made from various materials such as leather, faux leather, textile fabric, plastic or paper-like substances such as Tyvek®. It is known that coin pockets can be incorporated into such wallets with the use of zips, buttons or other forms of fasteners in order to secure the coin pocket and prevent coins falling out unintentionally. It is also known that coin pockets can be formed without fasteners by arranging the coin pocket such that it is secured when the wallet is closed along one of its fold lines.
It is desirable for coin pockets in wallets to be easily accessible, and for the coins to be easily selected. Compact wallets with fasteners that secure the coin pocket can require relatively delicate manipulation in order to access the coins. Regardless of the method of securing the pocket, selecting coins from a coin pocket in a compact wallet is generally made somewhat difficult by the necessarily small size of the pocket.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the wallet in the open configuration, oriented for accessing the credit cards and/or notes.
Figure 2 shows the wallet in the open configuration, oriented for accessing the coins Figure 3 shows the wallet in the closed configuration The note pocket 1 is connected via opening 2 to the coin pocket, the sides of which are formed by faces 3a, 3b and gusset 6. The coin pocket is closed on all sides except for opening 2.
When the wallet is closed, as shown in Figure 3, coins will not fall out of the coin pocket because the opening 2 is held closed by the fold line of the wallet indicated on the inside and outside respectively as 4a and 4b.
When the wallet is in the open configuration, the coin pocket end can be tipped up and cause the coins to fall into the area of the note pocket 1. In this configuration the coins 7 will naturally sit below the notes 8 and be easily accessible.
To return the coins to the coin pocket the wallet can be tipped in the other direction with the coin pocket end lower than the note pocket end. The coins will fall back through the opening 2 into the coin pocket, and the wallet may then be closed.
Advantageously, when the user of the wallet receives currency comprising both banknotes and coins together in one handful, such as when receiving change for a purchase, both the notes and coins can be put into the note pocket 1 together. The action of tipping the wallet towards the coin pocket end will automatically sort the coins into the coin pocket and leave the notes in the note pocket.
The wallet is shown in the figures with three credit card storage sections Sa, Sb and Sc. It is possible to also construct the wallet with two or four credit card storage sections if that should produce a note pocket of desirable length in respect of the sizes of the banknotes in the countiy in which the wallet is to be used. Furthermore, one or more credit card storage sections may be replaced with another form of wallet storage such as an identity card window.
Gusset 6 may be triangular or rectangular, or the wallet may be constructed without a gusset 6 such that the coin pocket faces 3a and 3b are joined directly on all but one side. The coin pocket need not be rectangular in shape and, for example, may have a curved edge on the side opposite the note pocket opening.
The wallet shown in the figures is best oriented for right-handed people as it is suited for using the right hand to pick out the coins from the note pocket area. The wallet construction may be mirrored to produce a wallet better oriented for left-handed people.
The openings of the credit card pockets are ideally oriented in the same direction as the note pocket opening, as opposed to being oriented towards one end of the wallet, so that the action of tipping the wallet in one direction or another will not tip the credit cards out.
Lastly, a button or other form of fastening may be used to hold the entire wallet closed, so that it will not fall open when kept in a bag rather than a pocket.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims 1. A wallet suitable for carrying banknotes, coins and credit cards that has a coin pocket connected to one end of the banknote pocket, such that the coins are accessed in the banknote pocket area after tipping the wallet so that they fall there from the coin pocket area.
  2. 2. A wallet assembled according to claim 1, where the action of folding the wallet closed along the line separating the banknote pocket and coin pocket secures the coin pocket and prevents coins from falling out.
  3. 3. A wallet assembled according to claim 2, where one or more credit card storage sections are formed along one side of the banknote pocket.
  4. 4. A wallet assembled according to any of claims 1,2 or 3 where the wallet is secured in the closed configuration using a button, buckle or other form of fastening.
  5. 5. A wallet assembled according to any of claims 1, 2, 3 or 4 where the wallet comprises credit card storage sections along the inner side of the note pocket whose openings are oriented in the same direction as the note pocket opening.
  6. 6. A wallet assembled according to claim 5 with three credit card sections, where the two credit card sections opposite the coin pocket end are folded together first when closing the wallet, around which the third credit card section and coin pocket are folded in order to fully close the wallet.
