Description
- MMM PHOTQUTMOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. tzv c.
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEICE@ IMPROVED BED-BOTTOM.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,585, dated April 10, 1866.
.To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK SCHIMMING, of Wurtemberg, Germany, now residing' in the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Sacking for Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists of-a sacking constructed of spiral springs and attached to the bedstead by such mechanical contrivance as is hereinafter described.
ln order to enable skilled mechanics to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
On reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this speoitication, Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
a a a a?, 85o., are spiral springs, the adjacent onesinterlacing each other. Through each end one, a a2, a rod, b b', passes the entire length.
c c are rods placed parallel with the rods b b. The centers of rotation of the spiral springs composing the sacking and of the rods b b and c o lie in the same horizontal plane.
d d are rods or bars resting transversely on the bed-frame A. Around each ot' them, at intervals, a Wire, e, is Wound or turned, one end, f, of which is inserted into the framing, and the other end, g, is elevated. at an angle and terminates in a hook, h, into which the rods o e are received.
The rods b o and b c are connected by the straps l l, &c., the ends of which are split to embrace the hooks h h, Src., and the end spiral springs, a a2, and hold them in place.
The construction of my saeking precludes all possibility ofits getting out of repair. It is strong and durable. When it is to be cleaned the rods b b and c c are slipped out. Tile springs e e, tc., add to its elasticity and spring-mess.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The sacking or bed-bottom, the straps Z I, and the springs e e, arranged substantially as herein specified and described.
In testimony whereof Ihereunto sign my name to this specification in presence ot' two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK SGHIMMING.
