Description
rrnn 'STATES OLIVIER LAFRENIERE, OF NET YORK, N. Y.
EMPROVED BEDSTEAD AND TABLE COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 39,933, dated September 15,1303; antedated December 12, 1862.
.To all whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that 1, OLivinR LAFRENIERE, of the city, county, and State otl New York, have invented a new and useful combination of a bedstead and table, designed more cspecially for camp purposes and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section or" my invention, adjusted as a bedstead, taken in the line :r af, Fig. 2; Fig. 2. an inverted plan ot Fig. 1, with the mattress or sai-.king bottom detached; Fig. 3, an elevation ot' the invention adjusted as a table.
Similar letters ot reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The object of this invention is to combine a bedstead and table in such a way as to form a portable and convenient device well calculated for cam p use, and also for ordinary purposes where it is necessary to econolnize in room or space. y
The invention consists in attaching to a circular or other suitable shaped plate or disk, folding orjointed legs, and using in connection therewith a sacking-bottom or mattress, all arranged as hereinafter shown and described.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A vrepresents a disk or plate, which may be of circular or other suitable form, and having two sockets, O O, attached to its under side. The sockets O O may be formed cach ot' two parallel plates, a a, placed at such a distance apart as to receive the ends ofthe legs D, two legs being in each socket, and secured therein by pins or bolts b, to form joints. There are two pairs of legs, D, each pair being connected by a traverse bar or rod, E, shown in Figs. l and 2.
The legs D are curved outward at their ends, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, and each leg is provided with a spur or project-ion, c. (Shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2.)
The disk or plate A and legs D may be of metal. That would be the preferable material.
When the device is to be used as a bedstead, the legs D are distended, and a sacking bottom or mattress, F, is attached to the ends ot' the legs D, the latter fitting in proper holes in the sacking bottom or mattress, the spurs or projections c serving as stops to prevent the sacking bottom or mattress slipping down on the legs D. The legs D are curved sutciently to admit of the sackin g bottom or mattress being at a proper height above the ground or iioor. When the device is to be used as a table, the sackiug bottom ormattress is removed and the legs folded together, as shown in Fig. 3, the disk or plate A serving as the top ot' the table, as shown in Fig. 1.
The legs D are of such a length, and they are attached to the disk or plate A at such points, that when distended a bedstead will be formed ot' requisite len gth, and when folded a table formed of proper height.
The device may be quite economically constructed, and it is very durable, the parts bein g few in number and not liable to get out of re pair or become deranged by use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the disk or plate A, legs D, and sackiug bottom or mattress F, constructed and arranged to form anew and useful article ot' manufacture, for the purpose specified.
OLIVIER LAFRENIERE.
