Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
' THOMAS L. FORTUNE, OF WESTON, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, AND GEORGE T. OHALLISS, OF ATGHISON, KANSAS.
IMPROVED WARDROBE-BEDSTEAD.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,1155, dated July 5, 1864.
1ro all whom, .it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. FoR'rUNE, ot' Weston, in the county ot' Platte and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in W ardrobe-Bedsteads and I' do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists, mainly, in the combination' ot' a wardrobe and bedstead, and also in certain peculiar arrangements of devices connected therewith.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an isometric perspective of my combined wardrobe and bedstead, the bedstead being in position for use. Fig. 2 is a front View of the wardrobe, the bedstead being folded up and not seen in the iigure.
In the construction ot' my wardrobe-bedstead a wardrobe of ordinary torm may be made, as shownin Fig.2. The top and bottom of the wardrobe are provided with any suitaable ornamental projections. A, to`serve as feet to the bedstead when the wardrobe is turned down.
In the back ofthe wardrobe may be placed aseries of slats, B, or any other suitable arr in gement, to receive the mattress or bed.
The posts O of the bedstead are hinged to the wardrobe so as to fold down over the bedding, thus packing the whole between the side boards, D, which arc common to the wardrobe and bedstead. Small hooks or springs E serve to fasten the posts C and hold them in an upright position, as seen in Fig. 2, and also to hold them in place when the bed is packed together.
My wardrobe-bedstead is very compact and neat, and also much cheaper than a Wardrobe and bedstead when made separately.
It' desirable, a pulley or other suitable cout ri Vance may be employed for raisin g and lowering the wardrobebedstead. I propose to modif y the form of the bedstead at pleasure, and to have more or less space for packing the bed, as is desirable, according to the mattress or bed in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim- The combination of the wardrobe and bedstead, when so constructed that it may be used as a wardrobe when in a vertical position and as a bedstead when in a horizontal position, with the hinged posts, all arranged and operating substantially as specified.
THOS. L. FORTUNE.
