JITTORJVEYISE rwsrsns, FHOTO-LIYHOGRAVHER WASHINGTON, D c.
UNITED (STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC S. BUNNELL, OF CARBONDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
lMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,989, dated December 17, 1878; application filed November 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC S. BUNNELL, of Carbondale, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a top plan of my bed-bottom, and Fig. 2 is a side-elevation View of the same.
My invention relates to a spring bed-bot tom 5 and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter setforth, and poi n ted out in the claim.
In carrying out my invention I employ two base-plates, which have suitable hearings on a bedstead, and near the center of these plates I rigidly secure the end of outwardlyextendin g spring-arms, the outward ends of each pair being provided with a cross-piece. To one of these crosspieces I secure the bends of a continuous single wire, and to the other I secure spiral springs, which springs are also connected with the continuous wire, as shown. This wire I bend in V-shaped forms or acute angles, connecting the loop formed by each row with the loops in the adjacent row by suit.-
able links, as shown.
Referring to the drawings, A A represent the base-plates, to which is rigidly secured at a the spring-arms B B, haying cross-pieces I) b at their ends. To the cross-piece I) I secure the loops 0 of a continuous single wire, (I, which, being bent as shown, and connected by the links D, forms a wire net-work or mattress. To the cross-piece I) I secure spiral springs, E, one of each of which is connected with each loop formed in the wire 0 at that end of the mattress.
The connecting means on the cross-pieces Z1 0 may be lugs, studs, books, or the like, and the spiral springs may be at both ends, if desired.
It will be observed that my invention is simple, cheap, and of easy construction, while at the same time it affords an efficient spring bed-bottom, having double springs.
A rope may be used instead of the wire 0, if desired.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The spring-bed herein described, consist ing of the base-plates A A, spring-arms B B B B, having cross-pieces I) b, the continuous wire G, bent as shown, and connected by links D, and the spiral springs E, the whole constructed, adapted, and arranged to serve as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC- SAMUEL BUNNELL.
