WEED dTrtTEd PATENT @l f lfllfii JOHN LIACKIN, 0E BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BED.
Li'LSZlJll'? Application filed November 30, 1912,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN MAGKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in beds and has for its object to provide a substitute for a mattress consisting of a resilient body supporting member adapted to give to the form and the movement of the bod lil ith the above and other objects in view which will be more fully explained in the following specification, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bed, Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line A-A of Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 is a bot tom plan view of the device.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a rigid preferably metallic frame, to the corners of which are secured opposite bearing members 2 and 2, the upper ends of which project above said frame and rotatably mounted thereupon are rollers 3 and 4: to which are secured the ends 5 and 6 of the flexible member 7 which forms a body support. Also secured to said members 3 and 4 are downwardly projecting levers 8 to the lower ends of which are secured springs 9 and 9 which are connected by turn buckles 10, whereby the tension of the springs and consequently of the member 7 may be regulated according to the weight of the person sleeping thereon. The lever tfopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar, Q, rare.
Serial No. 734,369. Renewed July 23, 1914. Serial No. 852,764.
members 8 are long enough to afford a perfect operation of the members 4: as the upper ends 11 of said levers curve almost entirely around said members 3 and a, whereby said levers have perfect control of the rollers 3 and a. The members 2 and 2 have cutaway portions 12 to fit over an ordinary bedstead rail whereby the device may be held in proper position. The member 7 is formed with pockets l3 and let on its opposite ends in which rods 15 are located, said rods being adapted to hold the member 7 transversely stretched and the staples 16 connecting said rods to said rollers whereby the member 7 is held stretched until practically all of said staples are removed.
Having now described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the kind described comprising a substantially rectangular frame, four brackets secured at the corners of said frame and having bottom recesses, a transverselyextending roller mounted in said brackets at each end of said frame, coextensive rods of lesser diameter than said rollers, a sheeting wound around a portion of each of said rollers and completely around said rods, staples straddling said rods and engaging said rollers to secure said sheeting to said rollers, a plurality of levers carried by said rollers, and extensible springs carried by said levers and being connected to one another substantially in alinement with said frame.
in testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
