CLINTON S. GOLGROVE, OF WINGHESTER', TENNESSEE.
SPRING-BED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,277, dated February 28, V1952.
' Application nieu November 1e, Iasi. (No model.)
To all uhom t may concern Be it known that I, CLINTON S. OoLGRoVE, ot' Winchester, in the county of Franklin and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spril'lgBeds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of' this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved spring bedbottom; and' Fig. 2 is a plan'view ot' the same, some of the slats being broken away to better show the construction.
The frame is composed of the end cross-bars, A A, at head and foot, side bars, B B, and the intermediate bars, C O, which are secured at their ends upon the upper side of the crossbars A A, the side bars, B B, being secured to the under side of said cross-bars, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.
At the head of the frame the intermediate bars, C C, are formed with the notches e e, and to the outside of these bars are hinged the arms D D, which are provided with the hinged pawls or braces E E, the lower ends of which are adapted to engage in the notches e e ofthe 'intermediate bars for raising and supporting the head of the bed-bottom, as shown in the drawings. These pawls or braces are tied tol gether by the cross-piece d for causing them H H', which support the ends ot' the slats. The series of coiled springs G G', after being secured upon the slats ot the bed-bottom, are coupled together by the wires J J, which are bent to form a square, and to inter-lace with the upper wires of the coils in such manner that four coils are bound together by each of the wires J, as shown in Fig. 2. After the wires J have been placed around the wires of the coils the ends are united by twisting in the ordinary manner, thus making an eiective, easily applied, cheap, and tirm coupling, and by means ot' the hinged arms D D, pawls or braces E E, and the series of notches e o the head portion ot' the bed-bottom can be easily raised to any height or slant to suit the convenience of the occupant, or may be lowered n on a level with the main portion of the bottom, as desired,th us rendering the bed-bottom very cheap and complete.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a bed-spring, the combination, with the end bars, A, the side bars, B, the intermediate bars, O, provided with notches e, the slats F, the spring G, secured to the upper surface of the said slats, and the springs H at their ends, ofthe arm D,hinged to the said intermediate bars and provided with the pawls E, the slats F', the springs G', secured to the upper surface of the slats, and the springs H' at their ends, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CLINTON S. GOLGROVE.
