Description

Umran STATES l Entrant* Carien.
WILLIS IV. MILDRUM, OF EAST BERLIN, ASSIGNOR TO J. AND E. STEVENS 86 CO., OF CEOMWELL, CONNECTICUT.
TOY ENGINE AND WHISTLE COIVIBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,@72, dated February 27, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLrs W. MILDRUM, of East Berlin, county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Engine andWhistle combined; and I do hereby declare that the same is described and represented in the following specification and drawings.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe its construction by referring to the drawings, in which the same letters indicate like parts in each of the h'gures.
The nature ot' this improvement will be understood from the specification and drawings, in Which- Figure l is a side VieWof my improvement. Fig. 2 is an edge viewof the saine.
a is a handle, made of Wood or other suitable material, and ot' any desirable length, shape, or style.
b is awheel, made or cast of Wood or metal and secured to the lower end of the handle a by means of a pin or screw, c, so as to turn freely thereon.
d is a cylinder and Whistle combined, and is secured to the handle a in any proper manner about eight inches (more or less) from the Wheel b.
e is a piston-head secured to one end of the piston-rod t', so as to Work closely and freely in the chamber of the cylinder. The outer end ot' said piston-,rod is supported and Works through a head, 7c, secured in the handle at a proper distance from the head of the cylinder, and its orifice insline with the center line thereof.
m is a connecting-rod', one end ot' which is secured to the Wheel b in a Working manner, and the other end secured to the outer end of the piston-rod t'.
AThis improvement (the Whistle and cylinder d) may be attached to other kinds of toys ha ving one or more Wheels. Thus when a child or person trundles this engine upon .the door or other place it will produce a musical sound from the whistle d, greatly to the amusement of children andolder persons.
I believe-I have thus described the 'nature and construction of this my improvement so as to enable others skilled to make and use the same.
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The whistle-cylinder d, in combination with the piston e and its connections 2'. m, Wheel b, and handle a, constructed substantiallyin the manner as and for the purpose described.
WILLIS W. MILDRUM.
