"PETERS, PHTO-LITNOGRAPHEH, WASHINGTON.4 D..C.
Patented 1/1ay16,1876.v
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM OONARD, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT-OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY BUZZES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,376, dated May 16, 1876; application tiled f April 11, i876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM OONARD, of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, making a part of this speciiication, in which- Figu1e l represents a t'ront View of my improved toy. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section through the line fr x. My invention relates to that class of hand toys designed for the amusement of children; and it consist-s in .pivoting a plate or disk in a .frame-work, so that the disk will revolve when driven by the breath blown through a tube set at an angle to the planeet' the disk.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use lny invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out. V
In the drawings, A represents the frame, provided with the opening a., preferably made round, in which is pivoted or journaled the plate B, as shown in Fig. 1. This plate may bear any desired inscription, design, or tigures. I have used the old American cent, and hence, with propriety, style my invention the Oent-ennial Toy. On one side of this cent I place the figures 17 7 6,L and on the opposite side the igures 1876, which two dates are shown as blended as the disk is caused to revolve. Through the upper portion of the frame I introduce a small tube or quill, O, at an angle to the plane ot' the disk, as shown in Fig. 2. By the introduction of this tube even very young children can operate the toy, as it directs and centers the tull power ot' the breath upon the proper p oint of the disk to cause it to revolve. To the end of this tube may be applied a small elastic tube, say about twelve or eighteen inches in length, provided with a suitable mouth-piece. The operator would thus be enabled to revolve the disk and watch its revolutions at the same time.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and `desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A toy constructed .as described, and composed of the frame A, pivoted disk B, andt-ube O, set at an angle to the plane of the disk, for the purpose set forth.
