GEORGES MATHIAS CLUZE, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 499,096, dated, June 6,1893.
Application filed September 2'7, 1892. Serial No.4 l6,996. (No model.)
'a To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGES MATHIAS CLUZE, of the city of Paris, France, have invented Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improved glove, which in appearance is almostidentical with the usual gloves, but has thcthumb sewed to it in a particular manner, whereby the seam around the thumb is avoided, and the thumb rendered yielding in its length, so that greater freedom is afforded for the movements of the hand.
My improved glove presents the peculiarity that the seam by whichthe thumb is secured does not extend to the wristband, nor is it continued to the palm, so that the latter is left perfectly smooth, as in ordinary gloves.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 represents a glove blank having the thumb aperture made to receive the improved thumb piece, the dotted lines showing the ordinary form of the said aperture. Fig. 2 shows a separate view of the thumb piece in the flat, cut of the improved form, and also showing the ordinary shape in dotted lines. Fig. 2 represents the blank for forming the small piece inserted at the base of the thumb between the latter and the first finger. Fig. 3 is a view of the glove with the blank shown in Fig. 2 in position. Fig. at showsa complete glove provided with a thumb piece of the improved construction.
As shown in Fig. 1, the thumb aperture instead of being rounded as shown in dotted lines at ct is continued in nearly parallellines at c 0 out to the usual slit d, while the thumb piece 19 instead of being rounded off as shown in dotted lines at a Fig. 2 is similarly prolonged so as to fit the aperture comprised. between the edges cc of the body of the glove to which it is stitched, the one seam 0 extending to a point a little below the first, and the other seam c to a point a little below the second, button so that the first button may be placed on the thumb piece itself between. the twoseams c c. 7
It will be seen that the palm is left perfectly smooth, without any seam, so that the good appearance of the ordinary gloves is preserved.
I claim- As a new article of manufacture a glove provided with a wrist slit d, a thumb opening extending from one side of said slit between the GEORGES MATHIAS CLUZE.
