Description
R. D.-B URR.
' Gloves. No. 234,528. r Patented Nov. 16, I880.
WITNESSES: v INVBNTOR: amMfiw/ 7 BY. JLMM,
ATTORNEYS.
NrrEn STATES REMUS D. BURR, OF- KINGSBOROUGH, NEW YORK.
GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,528, dated November 16, 1880.
Application filed January 12, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REMUS D. Bonn, of Kingsborough, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in extending the palm of a glove to form the little finger, thumb, and front and sides of middle finger, an obtuseangled out being made froin the base of the middle finger to the opening of the thumb, as hereinafter described. These features I will describe more particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view of the glove at the back. Fig. 2 is a view of the front. Fig. 3 shows the separate pieces forming the pattern.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to Fig. 3, the principal piece, a, of the pattern consists of the front or palm with the thumb-piece 1, middle-finger piece 3, and little-finger piece 5. The whole thumb and little fingerare formed by the pieces 1 and 5, while the piece 3 forms the front portion and sides of the middle finger, the back portion of that finger being formed by the forgette I), inserted as shown in Fig. 1, and extending to the wrist. The piece a is out at 7, which out forms a seam from the base of finger 3 to the opening of the thumb.
The forefinger 2 is formed by the piece 0, Fig. 3, which is of a shape and size to form the whole finger, uniting to the thumb and palm-piece a on the cut 7 in front, and extending to the wrist-piece d at the back, so that there is but a single scam in the forefinger itself, which seam is at the back.
The third finger 4 is formed by the piece 0 and forgettef, the piece 0 forming the front and sides of the finger, and is united at the base of the finger to the palm-piece a, as seen in Fig. 2. The forgettefalso extends to the wrist.
The wrist-piece (1 may be a single curved piece when no opening is required, or it may be in the form shown and fitted with the button-hole piece (1, that laps when buttoned, as shown in Fig. 2. In this case a short cut, 6, is made in piece a at the base of the thumb, which forms a continuation of the wrist-opening when the glove is made up.
The construction described furnishes a very serviceable glove on account of there being no seams between the fingers.
The pattern may be made in more pieces, if
desiredthat is, the back of the finger 5 may be a separate forgette instead of being formed with the piece a, or the pieces 1, 3, and 5 may be separate, the piece a being cut off, as shown in Fig. 3 by dotted lines. 1 do not limit myself in that particular.
The side opening for the wrist is an advantage in heavy leather gloves used by brakemen and others, as the front of hand and wrist is protected, and the opening is not in a position where it is liable to catch on projections.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a glove, the palm portion a, extended to form the finger 5, thumb l, and the front and sides of the middle finger 3, with the cut 7 from the base of finger 3 to the opening of the thumb, substantially as shown and described.
REMUS D. BURR.
