Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 4, 191'?.
Application l'ed March 13, 1913. Serial N0. 754,115.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, LUCIUS T. BUR- noUons. a, citizen of the United States, residing at La Crosse.y in the county of La Crosse and State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ("rloves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gloves, designed more particularly for use by workmen, such as chauffeurs, electric light men. and others requiring substantial gloves, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to obviate the seams which unite the finger members at the tips, where gloves usually give o1' rip in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a glove in. which there are no seams between the fingers and in which there are no seams around the tips of the fingers, so that all the wear on the glove Will come upon the palm portion, which is entirely seamless.
These and other objects may be attained by nieans of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which,
Figure 1 is a vievv in plan or elevation of the back of a glove made in accordance with this invention,
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the palm side of the glove,
Fig. 3 is a view in plan of the blank from which the glove is cut,
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the blank for the thumb,
Fig. 5 is a like view of the blank for the inner side of the middle fingers.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference 1 designates the line of the seam which unites the extended finger tips 2 at the back of the fingers on the glove, While 3 is the curved line at the side of the finger tips which are connected to the back members 4 of the fingers of the glove. The back of the glove is indicated by the letter a and the gauntlets by Z). The seams for uniting the front and back portions of the fingers are indicated b v c and these seams are located substantially on a plane With the back of the glove, that is to say the seams are not between the fingersbut rather at the back. The seam c unites the front and back portions of the glove along the outer line ol the little finger.
The longitudinal side seams merge at their outer ends to the adjacent terminal curved portions of the transverse seam. The fingers are smooth at the side edges of the front portion and are seamless at the front and outer end so that there is no liability of the stitches coming in contact with an object grasped by the wearer of the glove. By this construction the durability of the glove will be materially increased.
lVhat is claimed is A glove provided with a back, palm and front and back finger portions 'integrally formed, said glove having finger tips formed integral with the front portion of the fingers and extending over the palms of the fingers to the back of the latter and the back portions of the lingers terminating short o t the ends of the same and having their outer edges located at the end edges of the said finger tips, which are connected with the back of the fingers by transverse seams having'y curved terminal portions spaced from the inner ends of the tips and the inner side of the glove, said fingers being provided with longitudinal seams located in substantially the same plane as the back of the fingers and merging at their outer ends in the curved portions of the transverse seams at the adjacent ends thereof'. said lingers being smooth at opposite sides of their front portions and the front and outer ends of the fingers being seamless Whereby the stitches of all of the finger seams will be prevented from coming in Contact with an object grasped by the wearer of the glove.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
LUCIS T. BURROUGHS.
