DRESS-PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,801, dated June 6, 1893.

Application filed October 29, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELIZABETH A. LESTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the followingis afull,clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dress and corset protectors, by means of which a simple protector is provided being novel in construction, useful and cheap in first cost.

More particularly my invention relates to a protector which is provided with means, independent of the clothing for keeping it in place while being worn; and the objects of my improvements are, first to provide alight simple device which can be worn as a separate garment to protect the sleeve, dress and corset or outer garment from being soiled by perspiration from the armpit and second, to make the same so that it will fit any person and not be liable to displacement by the movements of the wearer or materially add to or take the place of other clothing.

That my invention may be more fully understood,referen ce is had to the accompanying drawingin which my invention is shown in a front perspective View illustrating fully its essential features and elements of structure.

In the figure a a are body parts and b b are arm parts. The said parts are made of double layers of nainsook cambric or other suitable material. The body parts a a are cut with a gradual taper downward and with concave upper edges to fit under the arm. The arm parts I) b are shaped of a crescent form and joined by seams to the concave edges of the body parts and pieces of waterproof material placed between the said layers and extended over the central seam and to the outer edges of the body and arm parts and sewed between the layers.

which said front straps are buttoned together and the rear straps are laced by a continuous lacing cord in a manner as shown to facilitate the adjustment of the protector upon the body for comfort and ease, and to accommodate its use by larger or smaller persons.

The crescent formed sleeve parts are provided with the elastic c, c which connect the upper edges thereof and are so provided that the arm may be thrown upward without re sistance, the elastic connections readily yielding to accommodate such movementand will prevent the arm piece or body piece from being drawn upward, as would be the case were the connection a non-elastic one which would result in a displacement and consequent crumpling of the shield and render it disagreeable to the wearer.

This dress and corset protectoris especially designed for comfort, ease of adjustment. cheapness and durability, as the said protector is simple in structure, light in weight, cool, convenient and in a sense, elastic.

I am aware that other patents have been issued covering the same character of device,

but I do not know of any that have all the points of advantage and certainly none that have the same structural elements, but I regard my invention as a new combination of elements that produces a better, cheaper and more desirable article of manufacture.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A dress protector comprising the body parts a at having concave upper edges and the crescent-shaped arm parts secured to the concave edges of the body parts, each body part having at its upper and lower corners in front and rear transverse connecting straps, the front straps having fastenings and the rear straps a continuous lacing cord uniting the ends of the opposing straps and the pairs of straps to each other, as set forth.
