UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. COPP, OF ROCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
UNDER-VEST.
SPECIFICATION forming pafrt of Letters Patent No. 236,989, dated January 25, 1881.
Application led September 29, 1880. `(Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. COPP, of Rochester, in the county of Stratford and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and valuable Improvementin Under-Vests; and I do hereby declare Ithat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction'andoperation of thesame, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, and to the letters and n'gures of reference marked'thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation Fig. 2 is a central vertical section. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the re-enforcing pieces. Fig. 4 is a view of the front section. Fig. 5 is a view of the back section. v
This' invention relates to devices for the protection of persons, whereby they are prevented from taking cold.
The invention consists in a garment of peculiar constructionv to take the place of or supplement the ordinary undershirt.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the front, and B the back, section of a garment, each constructed like the other, except that the edges of the back section overlap If desired,
with arm-holes'. The outside or re-enforcing pieces, C and D, are made smaller .than the sections A and B and of different shape, and are firmly attached tosaid sections. One section tits the back, the other the chest, so as to bring the smaller 4pieces C and D over the vital organs.
The edges of the two sectionsA and B may be fastened by buttons, tape, or an elastic strap, as desired. l
This garment is made of wool or any desired material, and forms a warm and com,- fortably-tting wrap, which in cold weather protects the wearer from cold and renders him less liable to disease.
I am aware that a. chest-protecting vest has been used; but in that case a regular vest was constructed, and connected chest and back protectors were secured thereto by hooks and eyes and buttons, as may be seen in Patent No. 200,063, February 5, 1878. This construction I do not claim, but desire to limit myself to the construction herein shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, what lclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
An undervest, substantially as described, the section A having re-ent'orcing piece C, in combination with section B, having re-enforcing piece D, the two sections buttoned together at the shoulders and sides.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN L. COPP.
