Description
C. A. FULLER.
CHEST-PROTECTING GARMENT.
No. 192,366. Patented June 26,1877.

CHARLES A. FULLER, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHEST-PROTECTING GARMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,366, dated June 26, 1877 application filed January 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A. FULLER, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chest-Pro tecting Garments, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents the front view of the protector, and Fig. 2 shows the rear or back view of the same.
My invention relates 'to that class of protectors designed to be worn as an under-garment; and it consists in a combination of skin and flannel or other suitable material, in such a manner that the skins do not pass around the body, and the protector is made to fit the chest and keep its place, as hereinafter described and claimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawing, A is a sleeveless close-fitting jacket, made of flannel or other suitable woolen material. B is a thickness or covering of buckskin, stitched upon the flannel jacket, and of sufiicient size to cover and protect the front of the chest, the buckskin passing over the shoulders, as shown at b b, and uniting the front skin B with the skin 0, stitched upon the back of the jacket A, so as to fit betweenthe shoulders of the wearer, thus affording protection for the vital organs, front and back, without any superfluity of weight or heat,
and producing a healthy garment, with proper ventilation and absorption, and a chest-protector that will keep its place, and, by means of the buttons 0 c, is easily and readily put on or removed, as may be desired.
This protector is designed to be worn over a light under-shirt, and, requiring but asmall amount of material in its construction, is simple and economical.
I am aware that chest protectors have been made of skin to entirely envelop the body; but such are objectionable, as they entirely arrest the evaporation, and the quantity of skin used in their manufacture makes them too costly for general use. In my invention the skin does notpass around the body, but covers only the, breast and between the shoulders in the back, the two parts meeting over the shoulders.
Having thus explained my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A chest-protecting garment, as described, consisting of the sleeveless jacket A, provided with the front and back pieces B and O of skin, and connected on the shoulders at b b with strips of same, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
oHAs. A. FULLER.
