Description

(No'ModeL) S. E. HERVEY.
DRESS WAIST PROTECTOR. No. 267,202. Patented Nov. 7, 1882.
Wizn 6336s. 1% with? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SARAH ELIZA HERVEY, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DRESS-WAIST PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,202, dated November '7, 1882.
Application filed May 1,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH ELIZA HERVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Dress and Corset Protector, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of devices for protecting the dress from being soiled or contaminated by perspiration, which are designed for application to the person rather than to the garment; and the invention consists in a two-part protector, composed of gossamer orthin water-proofmaterial, shaped to fit about the sides and armpits of the wearer, either inside or outside the corset, and provided with means for securing -it in place. I make my protector in two parts or halves, preferably rights and lefts, and only of just sufficient size to cover the most exposed portions of the garments, without materially increasing the bulk of clothing, substantially as hereinafter specified and. claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, to which reference is hereby made for illustration of my invention, Figure l is a rear view of my device in position, and Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
The halves of my protector are each composed of a side portion, A, shaped to extend from the waist up forward and backward over the body, and provided with a shoulder-strap, s, of the same material as part A or of elastic tape, and an arm and armpit portion, B,joined to the portion A. I prefer to make these protectors of the india-rubber or thin water-proof .fabric known as gossamer, single or double faced, so as to be of as little bulk as possible. The rubber portions A and B may be cemented together just under. the arm. Straps a, ot'sil'nilar material or elastic tape, are used over the arm to keep the arm portion B well stretched in place. fast to the body and kept in place by the cord 0, which passes around the waist and through two eyelets, i i, at the lower ends of the parts A A, and they are adjusted or fitted to the person by an elastic cord, 12, laced through eyelets in the back, and by the two elastic cords m, fastened in eyelets atmc, crossing over and looped upon studs, which are not shown, arranged at the points z 2.
My protectors thus constructed are designed to be worn under or over the corset, and will fully protect the corset and dress at those points where they are most exposed to damage from perspiration. By means of the cords they can be fitted to various sizes of persons, and, being sectional, will not unduly retain the heat of the body.
What I claim is The halves A B A B, shoulder-straps s s, arm-straps a a, waist-cord 0, front cords, m, and back cord, n, combined for operation substantially as shown and described.
SARAH ELIZA HERVEY.
The halves of my protector are made.
