2 Claims.

This invention relates to garments of the protective variety, and more particularly to the provision of a garment especially intended to protect the wearer from the oral discharge of a baby, incidental to belching upon being handled.

The object of the invention is the provision of a garment that can be readily donned or doffed, and one that will adequately protect the conventional garments of the wearer while handling an infant.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment as described that will accommodate persons of different proportions.

The above and other objects of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front View of the garment as worn.

Figure 2 is a rear view of the garment as worn.

Figure 3 is a developed view or pattern of the garment.

Figure 4 is a section taken on Figure 3.

Figure 5 is a fragmental sectional view of an end of the garment showing the trough.

Referring to the drawing in detail, my garment comprises a pair of identical, substantially rectangular panels 5 of suitable flexible material such as waterproof fabric or plastic, or the like, connected as shown. With particular reference to Figure 3, it will be noted that the garment is fashioned by placing panels 5 alongside one another, in parallel and aligned relationship, with their adjacent longer edges comparatively close together. The lower adjacent corners are connected by an elastic strap 6, while a second elastic strap connects the adjacent sides of the panels 5 at a point slightly below the center thereof. The top adjacent corners of the panels 5 are fitted, one with an elastic loop 8, and the other with a button 9. Loop 8 and button 9 are adapted to engage one another in fastening relationship to secure the garment in place, as is shown on Figure 1. Except for the loop 8 and the button 9, the garment is symmetrical about a longitudinal medium plane.

A pair of elastic straps H! are attached, adjacent to the upper sides of the panels 5, as shown on Figure 3, and the panels are then folded transversely, forwardly and downwardly from the ends of the straps l0 secured line 4-4 of to the lower outside corners as shown in Figure 3, and as can ends of the remote longer top, and the free 1 be seen on the completed garment illustrated on Figure l and Figure 2.

This construction provides a garment of extreme flexibility, relative to size, as the straps 6 and 1 permit the back of the garment to expand as may be necessary to fit the wearer. Further expansion can take place at the sides, as straps H] are also of an elastic nature, and a further resilience is provided in the front by the elastic loop 8.

The panels 5 may :be made thickness of material, having a seam ll inner edge as is indicated on Figure l.

The garment is merely slipped on in the same fashion as a vest, and is secured solely by the loop and button as shown on Figure 1.

Each end of each panel is folded back upon itself on the outside and stitched at the extreme edges to form a trough I2 open to the top and closed at the bottom and at its ends, so as to catch any discharge flowing downwardly from the shoulder of the bearer.

While I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of m invention, it will be understood that modification may be made within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Iclaim:

1. A protective garment consisting of a pair of panels of substantially rectangular shape and uniform size, arranged side by side in spaced relation and folded transversely to form shoulder shields, a strap connecting said panels at two of the adjacent corners at an end of the adjacent edges of said panels, a second strap connecting said panels at said adjacent edges and intermediate the ends thereof, a pair of outer straps connecting the opposed outer corners at the outer edges of said panels in transversely folded relationship forming an arm opening between each shoulder shield and the adjacent outer strap, and a separable fastening device adapted to secure the two adjacent corners at the other end of the adjacent edges of said panels.

A protective garment consisting of a pair of panels of substantially rectangular shape and uniform size formed of substantially watertight material, arranged side by side in spaced relation and folded transversely to form shoulder shields, a strap connecting said panels at two of the adjacent corners at an end of the adjacent edges of said panels, a second strap connecting said panels at said adjacent edges and from a double at the intermediate the ends thereof, a pair of outer corners at straps connecting the opposed outer REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
