rrn STATES DAVID F. HALSTED, OF BROOKLYN, NEXV YORK.
J ERSEY-WAlST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 339,407, dated April 6, 18?.6.
Application filed January 5, 18813.
To all 'LU7L07H it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID F. Hnns'rnn, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Ladies Jersey-\Vaists, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a front elevation of a ladys jersey-waist to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a section of a part of the same, taken through the line a: a, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to provide ladies jerseywvaists constructed in such a manner as to have the appearance of being worn over a jacket.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
A represents an elastic knitted jersey-waists To the edges of the open front of the waist A are sewed the side edges of the front B, which can be made of any suitable woven material. The front B is made in two parts, which are Serial No. 187,702. (No model.)
secured to each other by buttons 0 and button-holes, by hooks and eyes, or by other suitable fasteuings, so that the jersey-waist will have the appearance of being worn over a jacket. By this construction the non-elasiicity of the front will prevent the said front from being stretched, and thus drawn out of shape, while the elasticity of the waist will hold the said front snugly in place while allowing the body of the wearer to move freely. I am aware that linit Cardigan jackets are not new, and I do not claim the same as of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A knitted jersey having a space between its front edges, and a two-partfront of woven fabric conforming to the said space and secured permanently to the front edges of the jersey, the adjacent edges of the parts forming the front having securing devices, substantial] y as set forth.
DAVID F. HALSTED.
