No 476,761. Patented June 7, 1892.
WITNEfiSZGK 376 jVEhfTOR UNITED STATES LENA SITTIG, OF BROOKLYN, NEIV YORK.
SKIRT-PROTECTING GARMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 476,761, dated June '7, 1892.
Serial No. 428,731. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LENA SIT'IIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt -Protecting Garments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain improvements in skirt-protecting garments, which willbehereinaftermore particularlydescribed and pointed out.
In theaccom panyin gdrawi ngs, formin apart of this specification, Figure 1 is a front view of the garment, the lower portion being broken away to show the inner construction. Fig. 2 is a front view, the belt and skirt being open. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view, and Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the waistband and supporting-straps.
A is the body, and B the skirt, of the protector.
a is the belt or band for fastening the body A around the wearer.
O represents the under part of the skirt B, and is bifurcated, forming the legs, with openings c c. In the binding of the opening 0 are buttonholes c.
In Fig. et is represented a waistband D,which is to be attached to the waist of the person over the undergarments. From the band D are four straps (:1, each one bifurcated at the bottom, and these bifurcated parts d are to be attached to bands cl" d, on the outside of which are buttons 0 to correspond with the buttonholes c in the openings 0 of the leg part O of the protector-skirt B.
The skirt B is represented in Fig. 2 as being open at the waist. The flap Z) is open far enough down to permit the protector to be drawn over the persons clothing, and is then secured in any convenient manner. The drawings show the flap I) having a cord b and gathers b, so that the fullness of the fabric can be properly drawn to fit the waist under the band or belt a.
The skirt B turns up inwardly at the bottom and returns upon itself, so as to form a pocket B all around to receive the bottom part of all the inside skirts. The legs 0 are fastened at c to the support D by means of the straps (Z and bands d, which sustain the interior part of the protector.
I do not claim the gossamer or ordinary waterproof nor the skirt-protector having a pocket at the bottom; but
What I do claim is- A skirt-protecting garment comprising the outer skirt having a bifurcated extension secured to the bottom edge thereof and adapted to be turned up to inclose the skirts of the wearer, said extension having leg-openings thereimin combination with the waistband and supportingstrape, said straps terminating in encircling bands for engaging said extension at the leg-openings.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LENA SITTIG. Witnesses:
