TOILET POWDER-BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 472,217, dated April 5, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WARREN HILL, of Chicago, Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toilet Powder Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to make a and the invention consists in the features and combinations hereinafter described and claimed.

In making my pocket toilet-box I first make a box, preferably of metal, of suitable size and dimensions, but for ordinary purposes about two inches square and half an inch in depth. I then provide a suitable cover, preferably hinged at one side of the box, and on the inside of the cover I preferably insert a mirror to serve the purposes of an ordinary pocket or hand glass.

The body of the box is provided with a suitable space or chamber for holding powder. This chamber may be formed by a partition, preferably horizontal, passed across the box, as desired, but so as to form a space for powder and preferably a space for a, chamois or powdering pad. This partition may be integral with the box or formed from a separate piece detachable therefrom. It is provided with an opening or openings, through which the powder may be put in or taken out, as desired. I prefer to make this opening in the center of the partition and to-have the edges of the partition around the opening notched or recessed and turned down, so as to bring their projecting points in contact with the Serial No. 399,951. (No model.)

points permitting the powder to be inserted or taken out for use; but any other form of opening capable of answering the same purposewill be sufficient, and one or more openings may be used, as desired.

I prefer to place the horizontal partition slightly below the top of the box, so as to leave space for a chamois or other suitable pad for applying the powder to the face. When in place in the box this chamois or pad covers the well'or opening in the partition and prevents the powder from escaping when the cover is closed.

I claim 1. A toilet powder-box provided with a stationary horizontal partition separating the box into upper and lower chambers, one for powder and the other for a chamois-pad, the partition having an opening and the edges around the opening being notched and turned down, whereby they are made smooth and rounded for the escape of powder, substantially as described.

2. A toilet powder-box provided with a stationary horizontal partition having a central opening, the edges around the opening being notched and turned down to come in contact with the bottom of the box, space for powder under the partition, space for a chamois-pad above the partition, and openings between the downwardly-projecting arms for the escape of powder, substantially as described.

3. A toilet powder-box provided with a horizontal partition, space for powder under the partition, space for a chamois-padabove the partition, an opening in the partition having its edges notched and turned down to permit the escape of powder, and a hinged cover having a mirror on its inner side, substantially as described.
