CHARLES BOKAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOX FOR POWDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1907.
Application filed December 8,1906. $erial No. 346.958.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BOKAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of NewYork, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Powder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to boxes for holding powder and similar articles for toilet use and more particularly to the construction of the parts of such boxes or receptacles as will render it possible for a small portion of the contents of the box to be held in convenient positions for use as will be further explained in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings where like reference characters are used to designate the same parts in the several figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box for containing tooth-powder and having my improved top in position to be fitted on same. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lid from the lower side. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the upper end of the box with the lid or top in section. Fig. 4 is a cross section of the lid.
The improved device comprises a box or receptacle 5 havin a lid 7, intended for a permanent closure for the box, said lid being supported upon a rib or a head 8, near the upper edge of the box. The lid 7 has an aperture for which a pivoted cover is provided. The box or receptacle 5 is preferably elliptical shape in horizontal section, as shown in the drawings and the aperture closed by the cover 6, is preferably disposed at one end of the long diameter so that the contents of the box may be very readily discharged.
The box or receptacle 5 is provided with an auxiliary readily detachable cover 9, the same being formed by stamping, pressing or moldingfrom sheet metal, without a seam and of the rounded shape, clearly illustrated in the drawings, whereby it is adapted to fit the hand of the person using the box.
The cover is formed with a central transverse depression 10, nicely fitting the hollow of the hand and constituting, when the cover is inverted as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, a central transverse ridge or elevation supporting the cavities or depressions 11 at the end of the cover. This cover when in position on the box, as shown in Fig. 3, is supported upon that position of the bead 8, which projects beyond the edge of the stationary cover 7. WVhen the cover 9 is detached from the box or held in the hand in the inverted position shown in Figs. 2 and 4, a small portion of the powder contained in the box may be discharged into one of the cavities 11 and a small quantity of the water or liquid may be placed in the other cavity and the powder and liquid may be conveniently mixed by means of the tooth brush to form a paste for application to the teeth. The central or intermediate ridge or elevation 10 not only serves to support the dry powder from the liquid, but it forms an elevated surface upon which the powder and liquid may be effectually rubbed.
That I claim as new and desire to obtain by Letters Patent is:
1. A box or receptacle for tooth powder and the like, having an auxiliary cup provided with an approximately central transverse depression, forming, when the cover is inverted, a ridge or elevation and cavities adjacent thereto.
2. A receptacle for tooth powder and the like, having a bead near its upper edge and a lid permanently supported upon the said bead and provided with apertures near the edge thereof and a pivoted closure for said apertures, in combination with a readily detachable auxiliary cover, rounded to fit the hand and provided with an approximately central disposed transverse depression forming in the under side of the cover, two cavities and an elevated ridge portion separating said cavities.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES BOKAY.
