FRANK C. BORGMEYEB, OF ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO DAVID H. BORGMEYER, OF ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI.
BOTTLE AND LID.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK G. BORGMEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Charles, in the county of St. Charles and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottles and Lids, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottles, the object in view being to provide a bottle and lid or cover therefor, the same being especially adapted for containing and preserving in air-tight condition such substances as mucilage and paste or other adhesive material in liquid form, the bottle embodying means for inclosing and sustaining a brush in a certain position to keep the handle thereof clean and free from the mucilage, paste and other contents of the bottle.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for sustaining the brush in a position which will insure the falling of the handle of the brush to a predetermined side of the bottle neck upon the removal of the cover or lid; also means for removing surplus material from the brush as the same is withdrawn from the bottle.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through a bottle and cover or lid therefor embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The bottle 1 and the cover 2 are preferably formed of transparent glass although any other suitable material may be used.
The neck 3 of the bottle issomewhat reduced in size as compared with the main body of the bottle but is of the same general oblong shape while extending around the neck below the top thereof and formed integrally therewith is a bead 4 which forms a seat which supports the bottom edge of the lid or cover 2, a gasket 5 being interposed between the bead or shoulder A and the cover Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 10, 1908.
Patented Feb. 15, 1910.
Serial No. 442,929.
to obtain an air-tight fit or cover on the bottle, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
About centrally, the bottom 6 of the bottle is provided with an upstanding transversely extending stop 7 in the form of an inward oifset, as best shown in Fig. 1, against which the bristles of the brush 8 are adapted to bear for the purpose of sustaining the brush in the position shown in Fig. l. The handle 9 of the brush, at its upper end, is received in an angular inclined hollow extension 10 of the lid or cover 2 and by reason of the disposition of said extension 10,'the handle of the brush, when the cover or lid 2 is removed, falls against that side of the neck toward which it inclines while the cover is in place on the bottle. At the opposite side or end of the neck 3 there is arranged an inwardly extending scraper 11 preferably formed as an integral part of the body of the bottle against which the brush may be scraped to remove surplus mucilage or paste and leave the requisite amount of material on the brush.
By the arrangement described, it will be observed, that upon removing the lid 2, the brush handle falls away from the scraper 11 thereby preventing the mucilage or paste clinging to the scraper from getting on the brush handle.
I claim 1. A bottle for the purpose specified comprising an oblong body having an interior projection extending transversely across the bottom thereof, a neck corresponding in shape with the body, a scraper located within the neck and at one side thereof, and a lid corresponding in shape with the neck of the bottle and provided with a hollow extension to fit over and receive and inclose the handle of the brush, the extension being arranged to one side of the center of the lid and together with said projection being adapted to hold the brush handle inclining away from the side of the neck where the scraper is located.
2. A bottle for the purpose specified embodying an inward offset or ridge in the bottom thereof forming a centrally located stop, a scraper arranged within the neck at one side of the opening therein, and a lid for from slipping into the bottle and is caused the bottle provided with a brush handle reto incline away from the scraper. 10 ceiving and inclosing extension located at In testimony whereof I afiix my signature the opposite side of the center of the bottle in presence of two witnesses.
from that side where the scraper is arranged, FRANK C. BORGMEYER. whereby the brush may be held in such relal/Vitnesses:
tion to the stop and scraper that in the act of PETER KREKEL,
removing the lid the brush is prevented CI-IAs. PAUL.
