WITNESSES: INVENTOR.
@X W wzmm ATTORNEY-S.
UNITED STATES,
PATEN OFFICE.
CHARLES KLEIN, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK. I
BRUSH-CLEANING ATTACHMENT FOR BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,475, dated May 30, 1893.
Application filed November 28, 1892- Serial No. 453,357. (No model.)
ing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates toimproved devices applied to receptacles of mucilage or other liquid substances and designed to express the excessive substance from the brush in its withdrawal from the receptacle. And the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the claim.
In the annexed drawings Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of a mucilage bottle provided with my improved brush wiping devices. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the cover of said bottle, and Fig. 3 is a top plan- View of the bottle minus its cover.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
R represents the bottle or analogous recepta'cle for the mucilage or other liquid substance.
, C- denotes the cover which is detachably secured to the aforesaid receptacle in any suitable manner. This coveris provided with the large opening a for the introduction of the brush, and from said opening extends a slot a' for the purpose hereinafter explained.
b denotes a spring-bow formed of suitable band of spring metal and extending around the opening -a and secured edgewise to the under side of the cover at one side of said opening, and having its free ends extending along the corresponding sides of the.
cover -C at one side of the opening a adjustable to greater or less resistance I attach to the cover C, a screw-threaded thimble e and insert therein a set screw d, the inner end of which is swiveled in a longitudinal slot in the free portion of the spring-bow. By turning said screw the springbow is contracted or expanded and thereby the jaws cc are set closer or farther apart as may be desired.
In using the described devices the brush is introduced into the receptacle R through the opening a of the cover, and in withdrawing the brush from the receptacle the brush is first pushed laterally into the slot a' and thus brought between the jaws c--oand then in drawing the brush upward the surplus mucilage or liquid substance is either wiped or squeezed from the brush and retained in the receptacle.
, Having. described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with thereceptacle R, the cover -O- provided with the large opens b and slot a' extending from said opening, and the spring bow -b formed separate from the cover and secured to the under side of the cover at one side of the aforesaid opening and terminatingwith jaws -cc along opposite sides of the slot a' and sustained yieldingly laterally by the spring-bow, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony-whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 26th day of November, 1892.
