Description

G. H. MAUK.
STAMP MOISTENER.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 20, 1908.
awe/Mon ms "cams PETE ssssssssssssssssssss c UNlf lEll) STATES PATENT @ldlt lfifll io CHARLES H. MAUK, OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
STAMP-MOISTENER.
Application filed January 20, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. MAUK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Stampl li ioisteners; and I do hereby declare the fol- I lowing to be a full, clear, and exact descripi tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stamp moisteners and the object in view is to produce a simple and efiicient device of this nature which may be handled without the fingers of the person coming in contact with the moistening absorbent material, and consists essentially in the provision of a socket member adapted to receive a tube in one end of which is placed absorbent material, such as a sponge, while the other end is suitably capped, the tube to contain water to be absorbed by the sponge.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stamp moistener, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same.
Reference now being had to the detailsof the drawings by letter, A designates a holder which may be of any suitable size or shape and is provided preferably with a flanged bottom A in order to hold the device upright. Said holder has a cylindrical recess A formed therein, the bottom of which recess is tapered as at B. C designates a tube which may be of glass or any other material and adapted to hold absorbent material such as a sponge, and said material is designated 1 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Serial No. &11,818.
by letter D. Said tube has open ends and is adapted to contain water to be absorbed by the sponge or other material of an absorbent nature and is provided with a suitable cap E.
It will. be understood that the opening in the holder is of slightly larger diameter than the diameter of the tube in order that the latter may be readily inserted and removed therefrom. By having the lower end of the bottom of the holder in which the tube is placed tapering or recessed, the marginal end of the tube will rest upon the tapering bottom and not have a tendency to crowd the sponge or other material of an absorbent nature up into the tube beyond the end of the latter.
By the provision of a device as shown and described, it will be noted that a simple and efficient moistener is afforded for convenient use and one in which the fingers of the operator will be prevented from becoming moistened when handling the device. When not in use, the tube may be held within the holder and the absorbent material at all times kept moistened and in readiness for immediate use.
What I claim to be new is z A stamp moistener comprising a flanged socket member having an upright cylindrical portion which is hollow and terminating at its bottom in an inverted conicalshaped recess, the outer marginal edge of which is continuous with the bottom of the inner surface of said cylindrical portion, a tube, of uniform diameter, designed to telescope within said hollow upright portion and rest upon the flaring wall of said recess, a sponge fitted within the inner end. of said tube, and a closure at its opposite end, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my slgnature 1n the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. MAUK.
