Be it known that we, WILLIAM HENRY PALMER and WALTER WHITNEY DAvIs, both of Warren, in the county of Warren and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Mucilage-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved mucilage holder, which is simple and durable in construction, prevents the mucilage from drying up, andris ar-V `improvement on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2. Fig.

2 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the discharge nozzle.

The improved mucilage holder is provided with a compressible bulb A, made of rubber or other suitable material and provided at one endwith a filling cap B, for filling the mucilage into the bulb A. On the other end of thelatter is secured a tube C, preferably `made of metal and containing at its outer end a discharge nozzle D, made of felt and preferably screwing in the outer end of the said tube, the latter being lthreaded for this purpose so as to securely hold the nozzle D in place. The nozzle is made of felt or similar material and contains a short pipe E, which extends from the inner end of thelnozzle to wit-hin a short distance of the outer end thereof, as plainly illustrated in Fig. 1. The inner end of the pipeE is provided with a ange E', so as to form a mouth which registers with a central opening in the tube C.y The outer end of the ydischarge nozzle D is preferably cut to an edge for flattening opposite sides as plainly illustrated in Fier.

3. The cap B is fitted by means of a screw onto the filling opening of the bulb A-, air tight.

The felt nozzle while permitting the mucilage to ooze slowly through it when used assists in closing the tube so that in consequence of the same and the tight itting cap, the mucilage is held in the bulb until forced out; as in the construction, when in a state of rest the mucilage cannot escape without forming a vacuum at the top of the bulb.

It will be seen that when the bulb A is filled with mucilage and a slight pressure is exerted on the bulb, then the mucilage is forced through the tube C into the pipe E and from the ylat-terinto the outer end of the felt nozzle D, so that the latter is moistened by the gum and can be readily applied upon the article to be gummed, by moving the said nozzle over the part to be gummed.

In order to prevent the gum contained in the nozzle D from drying up, I place the holder on a stand F, during the time the holder is notl used, the said stand F being formed in its vtop with a recess G, the upper end of which is engaged at the sides by the lower part of the bulb A, so that the latter hermetically seals the said recess, thus preventing air from passing to the lower end of the bulb lcontaining the nozzle D. It will further be seen that this stand F conveniently supports the mucilage holder and permits the operator or user to conveniently remove the holder from the stand when using the holder for gumming an article. It will further be seen that the operator does not soil the hands when applying the mucilage by this holder, nor when the latter is filled with mucilage through the filling cap B, as above described.

Having thus fully describedour invention, Weclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentv 1-. The herein described discharge nozzle consisting of a body of compact felt having a metallic tube bedded in its upper end, substantially as described.
