BOOK-ET REFUSE-RECEPTAGLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 36 11915.
Application filed May 11, 1914. Serial No. 837,865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. SYKORA, a
citizen of Austria-Hungary, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Refuse-Receptacles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in receptacles, and particularly to pocket receptacles adapted to be carried in the pocket, and primarily for use by consumptives.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple device of this character which is sanitary in its nature and which is water proof so that the same can be conveniently carried in the pocket.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which will be free from odors and which can be readily taken apart and cleaned.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a receptacle made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the receptacle. Fig. 4c is a perspective view of the inner receptacle removed.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a receptacle of suitable size and shape for convenience in carrying in the pocket. This receptacle is provided with a hinged lid or cover 11, a spring catch 12 being provided for securing the lid in closed position. The catch is provided with a finger button 18 whereby the catch may be quickly released a spring being carried by the hinge of the cover to'automatically throw the lid open when said catch is released. Within the receptacle is a slightly smaller receptacle 14, this receptacle being adapted to contain loose sawdust or the like. This receptacle is formed of any suitable material, but preferably of a noncorrodible metal such as aluminum, and has a clrcumferential groove or recess 15 extending around the interior thereof. A wire or perforated metal plate 16 is engaged in this recess and is disposed just above the top of the sawdust. Formed integrally with the side and end walls of the receptacle are the vertically extending walls 17, the upper ends of which turn outwardly as indicated at 18. Formed around the edge portion of the underside of the lid 11 is a recess or groove 19 which is adapted to receive this outturned portion 18 when the said lid is in closed position. Disposed within the groove 19 is a rubber ring or washer 20 which engages with the outturned portion 18 so as to produce a liquid proof joint. The sawdust is adapted to contain any suitable deodorant or disinfectant and may be readily removed and replaced by fresh sawdust. The inner receptacle 14: may also be readily removed and the reticulated plate 16 as well, to permit cleaning of the said receptacle. The device is also adapted to receive cigar ashes, tobacco quids, chewing gum, burnt matches and the like. It will also be understood that the device may be made of any desired material, and in any desired shape, dimensions or design.
What is claimed is:
A pocket refuse receiver comprising a suitable receptacle having a movable cover, a removable inner receptacle arranged to receive the refuse, said inner receptacle having a lateral flange on the upper edge portion of its wall, the said cover having a groove formed in the underside and extending around and near the marginal edges, a washer disposed in said groove, the upper edge portions of the walls of the inner receptacle being received within the groove of a cover and bearing against the said washer, and a releasable catch for the lid and means i for throwing the lid into open position when JOSEPH F.
