are same WALTER. P. MILLER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOX.
T all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HALTER P. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eoxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in boxes, the object of the invention being to provide a box which is especially designed for holding the needles used on phonographs, graphophones and the like, and providing compartments for used and unused needles preventing any possibility of the needles becoming mixed incident to their use.
ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating my improvements with the cover removed. Fig. 2, is a view in longitudinal section with the cover in place, and Fig. 3, is a view in cross section through the center of Fig. 2'.
1, represents the rectangular body of the box in which a removable needle holder 2 is mounted. This needle holder 2 is of general rectangular form in outline, to fit snugly within the body 1, and the sides of the latter are recessed as shown at 3 so that the needle holder may be grasped between the thumb and forefinger and removed from the box.
lVhile the box and the needle holder may of course be made of various material, they are preferably made of cardboard. The needle holder is made with a central hollow partition 4:, with a compartment 5 at each side thereof. The bottoms 6 of these compartments 5 are preferably curved or rounded so as to facilitate the grasping of needles therein, and the hollow partition 4: forms a central compartment 7 between the needle compartments 6, and access is had to this 1 1910. Serial No. 578,912.
compartment 7 through an opening 8 in the top of partition 4.
The unused needles are to be placed in compartment 5, different styles of needles in the different compartments if desired. As the needles are used, they are dropped through the opening 8 into the compartment 7, so that there can be no confusion whatever between used and unused needles.
When the compartment 7 becomes full, the needle holder 2 may be removed from the body of the box 1, and the used needles removed. A suitable cover 9 is preferably provided to inclose the needle holder within the box.
Various slight changes might be-made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my in vention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details setforth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A box of the character described, comprising a rectangular body, a rectangular needle holder removably supported in the body and having a central hollow partition having an opening in its top, said hollow partition forming a central compartment for used needles and the bottom of said body constituting the bottom of said central compartment, whereby said compartment may be opened to discharge the used needles, compartments at opposite sides thereof for the unused needles, said compartments for unused needles having curved or rounded bottoms, and a cover constructed to fit over said body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
