My invention relates to improvements in safety razors and containers therefor.
VAn object of my invention is to provide an improved type of safety razor and container therefor, which may be readily disassembled, packed in a container and carried around'in the vest pocket. In order to attain this result I preferably provide a novel type of extensible handle member for the fiat safety razor and I preferably construct my improved container with a handle holding-compartment and flat razor compartment and so shape the container that it may compactly contain these disassembled elements of the safety razor and a plurality of spare razor blades therein in a neat and efcient manner at the same time making the device readily capable of being carried in the pocket.
A further object of my invention is to provide a novel type of extensible handle for safety razors, which may be telescopically compressed to a packing position and automatically extended when it is desired to use by mere operation of screwing the handle on the usual attaching lug on the guard means of the safety razor to provide a handle of the desired length for shaving therewith.
While I have shown in the drawing my invention applied to the type of safety razor having a plurality of aligned guard members compressing to a transversely concaved position a nexible safety razor blade and my invention is particularly designed to be used with such types of safety razors, it is obvious that it may be employed with any desired type of safety razor having a blade having a cutting edge and guard means preferably for each side of said blade.
A further feature of an improved embodiment of my invention is that I preferably construct the container out of resilient pressed material to move when in closed position to a position compactly resiliently retaining the safety razor, the handle and blades therein and adapted to move when opening 'to lift the handle out of its respective compartment to a readily accessible position for screwing on the safety razor base.
A further feature of my improved construction is that the handle may be screwed onto the guard member or safety razor base while the same is still lying in its respective compartment and when the handle member is thoroughly screwed on and extended the entire safety razor may be simply lifted out of its compartment in assembled form ready for use.
These and such other objects of my invention as may hereinafter appear will be best understood from a description of embodiments thereof such as are shown inthe accompanying drawing applied to a flexible blade type of safety razor.

In the drawing, wherein like characters of referenoe indicate like parts throughout, I0 generally indicates a standard type of safety razor. Said safety razor is provided with the usual guard means I 2, safety razor blade I4 mounted thereon and the usual handle member I6 threadedly mounted on suitable lug means projecting upwardly from said guard member. While I have shown a threaded lug projecting upwardly from said guard member adapted to be screwed in a threaded hole in the lower end of the handle member it is obvious that the handle member may have a threaded lug depending therefrom coacting with a threaded hole in the guard member without -departing from the spirit of my invention, such being the ready and well known equivalent thereof.
While I have shown my invention applied to a standard well known type oflsafety razor having l a lower guard member and an upper guard member, both enclosing a flexible razor blade and adapted when the handle is attached to the upstanding lug on the lower guard member to compress the safety razor blade Id to a transversely concaved cutting position between said guard members, it is obvious that insofar as the features of my improved handle and container are concerned that any standard type of safety razor may be employed. In my preferred embodiment, however, I have shown my invention applied to the type of exible safety razor heretofore referred to, which includes the flexible safety razor blade having the cutting edges I8 on each side thereof, a central lug hole and two guide holes 22 on each side thereof longitudinally aligned with said central lug hole 20.
The guard means I2 includes a transversely concaved upper guard member 24, preferably provided with the laterally projecting teeth 26 and having the central lug hole 28 therein and the guide holes 3i? longitudinally aligned therewith as in the flexible safety razor blade. The lower guard member 34 is also preferably transversely concaved and is provided with the externally threaded centrally upwardly projecting handle attaching lug Se projecting upwardly through the aligned lug holes 2Q and 28 in the razor blade and upper guard member respectively and the guide lugs 38 projecting upwardly on each side of said handle attaching lugs through the aligned guide holes 22 and Sil respectively in said razor blade and upper guard member. If desired, however, as hitherto explained any suitable type of guard means l2 may be employed adapted to,hold the safetyvrazor blade lli having the cutting edge I8 thereon and provided with threaded means for detachable securement with threaded means lon the razor blade handle.
As stated hitherto, I provide a novel type of extensible handle IB so that the relatively movable lower handle member ll and the preferably 'telescoping upper handle member $2 may be telescopically threadedly arranged relative to each other to move to an extended position for use in shaving and to a shortened position for use in packing in the container. The lower handle member 40 is provided with suitable threaded means for attachment to the threaded means on the guard means of the flat safety razor and in my preferred embodiment is provided with the lower end 44 internally threaded as at 46 to receive the threads of said handle attaching lug St. Said lower handle member is adaped on threading thereon to have the surface 48 of the lower end thereof abut the upper surface of said upper guard member 24 and compress it downwardly against said lower guard member 3A. to bend said exible razor blade M to a transversely concaved cutting position. Said lower handle member 40 is also provided with an enlarged upper end 5t externally threaded as at 52. The upper handle member i2 is preferably hollow and is internally threaded as at 54 with threads of cooperating pitch with those on the upper end of the lower handle member to receive said threaded upper end 5D of said lower handle member. The lower end 5S of said upper handle member is preferably conically downwardly tapered to the periphery of the main portion of said lower handle member fifi; It is thus apparent that both the lower handle member l? and upper handle member i2 may be readily made on a screw machine and after the threads 52 and 54 have been cut respectively on the respective portions of said respective handle membersthat the lower end 553 of said upper handle member may be inwardly bent for this purpose. The cooperating threads 52 and 54 of said lower handle member and upper handle member respectively are preferably of reverse pitch to that of said cooperating threads in said lower handle member and the handle attaching lug respectively and said threads 52 and 54 are preferably of relatively fast pitch so that on screwing thereof the upper handle member 42 may rapidly telescopically rise on said lower handle member Ml, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said handleY IG with said handle attaching lug 36, said handle may be screwed onto said lug until the lower end 43 of said handle abuts said upper guard member 2li and on further rotation thereof, said upper handle member 42 may rise rapidly on said lower handle member 40 until the lower portion 60 of the upper end 59 of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower 5 respectively to bend said flexible razor blade I4 to a transversely concaved cutting position, it being apparent that where other types of safety razors are employed that this concaving effect will not be produced. l5 As stated hitherto I provide in combination with my novel type of safety razor, an improved preferably fashioned pocket container S2 for said disassembled razor, preferably constructed of pressed resilient material, such as brass, steel, Celluloid, etc. and comprising a fashioned base member 64 and a fashioned cover member 66 pivotally mounted thereon by means of the hinge 68. The base member Sil is shaped to form a front fiat safety razor base holding compartment 25 'le having an inwardly projecting shelf l2 on one end thereof adapted to overlie said flat safety razor, a rear handle holding compartment lll and a' partition 'it pressed inwardly therein separating said compartments 10 and 14 and preferably 30 provided with a supplemental wall Tl preferably integral with said shelf 'l2 for gripping the razor handle between the side walls of said compartment. The cover member 66 has the rear end thereof pivotally mounted on the rear end of said 35 base member by the hinge 68 and is provided with means on the front end thereof to cooperate with latch means T3 on the front end of said base member to lock said cover to said base member, in the embodiment shown said latch means 18 comprising a lug adapted to bind against the resilient wall of said upper cover member. Said upper cover member is provided with a front compartment 8G for spare razor blades, which is provided with a shelf B2 projecting inwardly on the opposite 45 end thereof from said razor base shelf 'l2 adapted to overlie the spare razor blades 86 and retain them in position within their. compartment 89. Said cover member is also` provided with a rear safety razor handle compartment 9U and a par- 50 tition 92 preferably pressed inwardly therein dividing said front compartment Bl! from said rear compartment S0, whereby when in closed position said partitions 'i6 and 92 will closely bind said handle i6 between the side walls of its respective cooperating compartments 14 and 95 in the base and cover members respectively and said shelf 'i2 overlying said safety razor l2 may abut the spare razor blades 8l! in the opposite compartment to retain them compactly within their compartment Si) and said shelf 82 on the opposite end of said spare razor blade compartment may abut said safety razor guard to compactly retain it in its compartment and when said cover 65 is open, the side walls of the lower handle compartment G5 'all may be bent outwardly by said hinge 58 to resiliently spring the handle I6 to an accessible position above its base compartment l.
It is obvious that the rotating hinge sleeves B9 70 thisv instance a spare safety razor blade container SQ is provided having an open end S6 and pivotally mounted on the front end of the spare safety razor compartment 80 by the hinge 98. As shown in Fig. 5, when in open position the container 94 may be pivoted outwards so that the safety razor blades 84 may be removed therefrom. When moved to closed position the upper surface of said container 9d may act as a shelf to abut the end of the safety razor to retain it compactly within its respective compartment 70 in use.
It is obvious that when'not in use the safety razor may be shut within its container and take up the compact position shown in Fig. l of a size small enough to be carried around in a vest pocket. When it is desired to use the safety razor the upper cover member 66 is pivoted outwardly to an open position and the handle member I6 will be moved out of its respective compartment by the hinge sleeves as explained to an accessible position. The safety razor base will lie in its respeotive compartment 10 and the spare safety razor blades 84 will lie in their respective compartment 80. The handle I6 may then be readily taken from its compartment and the lower end thereof threaded on the lug 3B until the lower end 43 thereof abuts the upper guard member, when on further rotation thereof the upper handle member 42 will slide telescopically outwards relative to the lower handle member i9 until the lower end 6i) abuts the conical portion 58 when it will become bound therein and the lower end thereof will then force the upper guard member downwardly against the lower guard member to bend the flexible safety razor blade into a concaved cutting position. It is obvious then that the safety razor may be withdrawn for use by merely lifting on the handle I6 and tilting one end of the razor upwards and then drawing the other end out laterally from below its respective shelft 72 to a position for use. In similar fashion my improved safety razor may be disassembled and packed within said container.
It is obvious therefore that I have provided a novel type of safety razor, including a readily extensible handle therefor which functions in combination with the novel container therefor to make a completely demountable type of safety razor which may be readily packed into a compact form for carrying around in the pocket.
It is understood that my invention is not limited to the specific embodiments shown and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A safety razor having a flexible safety razor blade having a cutting edge on each side thereof and three longitudinally aligned holes centrally thereof, a laterally toothed transversely concaved upper guard member having three aligned holes therein, a transversely concaved lower guard member having a threaded handle attaching lug projecting upwardly through the centrally aligned holes in said blades and upper guard member and guide ings projecting upwardly on each side of said handle attaching lug through the aligned guide holes in said razor and upper guard member, a handle fo-r said razor having a lower member having an internally threaded lower end adapted t'ofreceive the threads of said handle attaching lug and adapted on threading thereon to have the lower end thereof abut said upper guard member to compress it downwardly against said lower guard member to bend said flexible razor blade to a transversely concaved cutting position and having an enlarged externally threaded upper end, and a hollow upper handle member having an internally threaded inner periphery adapted to receive the threaded upper end of said lower handle member and a conically tapered lower end tapered to the periphery of the main portion of said lower handle member, the co operating threads on said upper and lower handie members being of a reverse pitch to that of said cooperating threads on said lower handle member and handle attaching lug and of relatively fast pitch, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said handle attaching member' with said handle attaching lug said handle may be screwed onto said lug until the lower end thereof abuts said upper guard member, on further rotation thereof said upper handle member may rise rapidly on said lower handle member until the upper end of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower end of said upper handle member and on further rotation thereof said handle member may further rotate on said handle attaching lug to compress said guard members to bend said flexible razor blade to a transversely ooncaved cutting position.

A safety razor having a safety razor blade having a cutting edge on each side thereof and guard means for each side of the cutting edge of said safety razor blade having threaded handle attaching means centrally thereof, a handle for said razor having a lower member having threaded means on the lower end thereof for threaded engagement with said threaded handle attaching guard means and adapted on threading thereon to have the lower end thereof abut said guard means and having an enlarged externally threaded upper end and a hollow upper handle member having an internally threaded inne-r periphery adapted to receive the threaded upper end of said lower handle member and a conically tapered lower end tapered to the periphery of the main portions of said lower handle member, the cooperating threads on said upper and lower handle members being of a reverse pitch to that of said cooperating threads on said lower handle member and handle attaching guard means and of relatively fast pitch, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said handle attaching member with said handle attaching guard means, said handle may be screwed onto said means until the lower end thereof abuts said guard means and on further rotation thereof said upper handle member may rise rapidly on said lower handle member until the upper end of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower end of said upper handle member.

A safety razor having a safety razor blade having a cutting edge on each side thereof and guard means for each side of the cutting edge of said safety razor blade having threaded handle attaching means centrally thereof, a handle for said razor having a lower member having threaded means on the lower end thereof for threaded engagement with said threaded handle attaching guard means and adapted on threading thereon to have the lower end thereof abut said guard means and having an enlarged externally threaded upper end, and a hollow upper handle member having an internally threaded inner periphery adapted to receive the threaded upper end of said lower handle member and a conically tapered lower end tapered to the periphery of the main portion of said lower handle member, the
cooperating threads on said upper and lower handle members being of a reverse pitch to that of said cooperating threads on said lower handle member and handle attaching guard means, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said handle attaching member with said handle attaching guard means, said handle may be screwed onto said means until the lower end thereof abuts said guard means, and on further rotation thereof said upper handle member may rise on said lower handle member until the upper end of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower end of said upper handle member.

A safety razor having a flexible safety razor blade having a cutting edge on each side thereof and three longitudinally aligned holes centrally thereof, a laterally toothed transversely concaved upper guard member having three aligned holes therein, a transversely concaved lower guard member having a threaded handle attaching lug Yprojecting upwardly through the centrally aligned holes in said blade and upper guard member and guide lugs projecting upwardly on each side of said handle attaching lug through the aligned guide holes in said razor and upper guard member, a handle for said razor having a lower member having an internally threaded lower end adapted to receive the threads of said handle attaching lug and adapted on threading -thereon to have the lower end thereof abut said upper guard member to compress it downwardly against said lower guard member to bend said flexible razor blade to a transversely concaved cutting position and having an enlarged externally threaded upper end and a hollow upper handle member having an internally threaded inner periphery adapted to receive the threaded upper end of said lower hanadle member and a conically tapered lower end tapered to the periphery of the main portion of said lower handle member, the coopera'ting threads on said upper and lower handle members being of a reverse pitch to that of said cooperating threads on said lower handle member and handle attaching lug, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said handle attaching member with said handle attaching lug said handle may be screwed onto said lug until the lower end thereof abuts said upper guard member, on further rotation thereof said upper handle member may rise on said lower handle member until the upper end of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower end of said upper handle member and on further rotation thereof said handle member may further rotate on said handle atta'ching lug to compress said guard members to bend said flexible razor blade to a transversely concaved cutting position.

A handle for safety razors having a lower member having an internally threaded lower end adapted to receive the threads of a handle attaching lug on guard means on said safety razor adapted on threading thereon to have the lower end thereof abut said guard means and having an enlarged externally threaded upper end and a hollow upper handle member having an internally threaded inner periphery adapted to receive the threaded upper end of said lower handle member and a conically tapered lower end tapered to the periphery of the main portion of said lower handle member, the cooperating threads on said 5 upper and lower handle members being of a reverse pitch to that of said cooperatingl threads on said lower handle member and handle attaching lug on said guard means and of relatively fast pitch, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said lower handle member with said handle attaching lug, said handle may be screwed onto said lug until the lower end thereof abuts said guard means and on further rotation thereof said upper handle member may rise rapidly on said lower l5 handle member until the upper end of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower end of said upper handle member.

A handle for safety razors having a lower member having an internally threaded lower end adapted to receive the threads of a handle attaching lug on guard means on said safety razor adapted on threading thereon to have the lower end thereof abut said guard means and having an enlarged externally threaded upper end and a hollow upper handle member having an internally threaded inner periphery adapted to receive the threaded upper end of said lower handle member and a conically tappered lower 4end tapered 30 to the periphery of the main portion of said lower handle member, the cooperating threads on said upper and lower handle members being of a reverse pitch to that of said cooperating threads on said lower handle member and handle attaching lug on said guard means, whereby on initial threaded engagement of said lower handle member with said handle attaching lug said handle may be screwed onto said lug until the lower end thereof abuts said guard means and on further rotation thereof said upper handle member may rise on said lower handle member until the upper end of said lower handle member becomes tightly bound within the tapered lower end of said upper handle member.

AV handle for safety razors comprising a lower member having means therein adapted to be attached to the guard means of a safety razor and a rigid upper handle member rapidly telescopically permanently threaded over said lower handle member adapted on relative rotation of said members to be rapidly moved outwardly and means to releasably retain said upper handle member on said lower handle member in extended operating position. 5 5

A` handle for safety razors comprising a lower member having means therein adapted to be attached to the guard means of a safety razor and a rigid upper handle member telescoplcally permanently threaded over said lower handle member adapted on relative rotation of said members to be moved outwardly and means to releasably retain said upper handle member on said lower handle member in extended operating position.
