No. 461,702. Patented Oct. 20, 1891.

JAMES HUGH ELSON, OF UNIONVILLE, MISSOURI.
LABEL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,702, dated October 20,1891.
Application filed January 30, 1891. Serial No. 379,719. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES HUGH ELsoN, a citizen of the United States-residing at Unionville, in the county of Putnam and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of boxes or receptacles for holding labels which is more particularly adapted to the use of druggists; and the object of the invention is to provide a convenient device to be secured to the counter which Will save time and facilitate business.
To this end the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more particularly described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device applied to a counter, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
In the drawings, A designates a rectangular box or receptacle, which may be constructed of any suitable material. Upon the inner face and rear end are formed lugs B B, having suitable perforations b 19 therein for the reception of screws, by which means the boxes are secured to the counter or any suitable place in a store. The forward or point end of the bottom of this box is beveled off, as shown at c in Fig. 1, whichfacilitates the removal of the labels. If preferred, a thumb recess or hold may be formed in the bottom in lieu of the bevel, by which to more conveniently and expeditiously grasp the labels for removal. Secured to the forward end and at one side of the box are lugs C 0, provided with perforations D D, through which a rod (1 is passed, said rod also passing through a lug E, formed upon the rear end of a door or cover F, said lugs and rod constituting a hinge for the-cover, by means of which the box can with the bottom of the box, thus providinga close joint, as at g, between the cover and the box.
The advantages derived from the peculiar construction of my device is that any number of them can be placed at any desired location in the store and near by the bottles containing the medicine for which they are used, thus obviating the necessity of running to one place when a label is wanted but by my device being secured at different places in the store they are always at hand and can be readily used, thereby saving labor and time to look over alarge assortment of labels to find the one desired.
My invention is simple in the construction, durable, and cheaply manufactured.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The box or receptacle A, having lugs B B and O O, the former formed upon the rear end and inner face of the box and the latter upon the side and forward end thereof, through which the rod D is passed andbeveled at its forward end, as atff, and a hinged cover having a lug E formed upon its rear end, whereby ahinge is formed between the box and cover by means of the rod D and the lugs B B, the cover also being provided with beveled grooves, as shown, all constructed as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
. J. HUGH ELSON.
