FRANK BURGETT GROVE, OF MANSFIELD, AND MILTON SIMON GROVE,
OF FINDLAY, OHIO.
LABEL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 686,289, dated November 12, 1901.
Application filed October 4, 1900. Serial No. 32,050. (No model.)
To all tU'72/077l/ it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK BURGETT GROVE, a resident of Mansfield, in the county of Richland, and MILTON SIMON GROVE, a resident of Findlay, in the county of Hancock, State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Label-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in label-holders; and its primary object is to provide a device of simple and durable construction which is cheap to manufacture and which may be secured to the under surface of a shelf or otherstructure at a point above or in close proximity to the bottle or other receptacle containing the material referred to upon the labels within the holder.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of our invention, and in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the device, showing the same in position under a shelf. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same detached. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the weight, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of a modified form.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is the body of a holder which is formed of sheet metal or any other suitable material and which is rectangular in crosssection. The front end of this holder is inclined, as at 2, and the bottom thereof is provided with a longitudinal slot 3, which communicates atits front end with a transverselyeXtending slot 4, arranged at the inclined end 2 oftheholder at the lower edge thereof above the bottom. Flanges 5 extend horizontally from the sides of the holder, at the upper edges thereof, and these flanges have extensions 5*, which project forward to points substantially in vertical alinement with the forward edge of the inclined end 2.
A horizontally-arranged weight 6,rectangular in cross-section, is fitted within the holder 1 and is provided with an inclined end 7, whereby the same may fit snugly against the inclined end of said holder. The flanges 5 are preferably provided with apertures adapted to receive screws or other securing means whereby the holder may be fastened to the under surface of a shelf or other similar structure. These holders are adapted to be secured to shelves at points directly above or below the receptacles containing the material referred to upon the labels to be placed within the holders, and, if desired, they may be secured to the cleats arranged across the tops of drawers, &c.
The labels are placed within the holder and the weight 6 laid thereupon. This weight will hold the labels firmly clamped upon the bottom of the holder, and when it is desired to withdraw one of the same it is merely necessary to moisten the finger and place the same in contact with the bottom label through the slot 3. Said label can then be slid outward through the slot 4.. If desired, the slot 3 may be arranged within the center of the bottom of the receptacle, as shown in Fig. 4, instead of communicating with the end slot at. The frictional contact of the weight with the labels cause itto be advanced with the labels as the bottom label is removed.
In the foregoing description we have shown the preferred form of our invention; but we do not limit ourselves thereto, as we are aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and we therefore reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of our invention.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A label-holder comprising a horizontal oblong body of rectangular shape in crosssection constructed with a horizontal bottom, having a longitudinal slot, an outwardly-inclined front end, extending to a point over the outer end of the bottom providing in connection with the latter and the sides of the body a transverse slot, horizontal parallel supportingflanges extending outwardly from the sides of the body at the upper edges thereof and having overhanging extensions project ing forward to points approximately in vertieal alinement with the lower forward edge of the body and a horizontally-arranged oblong weight of rectangular shape in cross-section, formed with an outwardly-inclined front end and adapted to be supported on a horizontally-arranged pack of labels and to be moilrled forwardly by frictional contact therewit 2. A label-holder comprising a horizontal oblong body of rectangular shape in crosssection, constructed with a horizontal bottom having a longitudinal slot, an outwardly-inclined front end, extending to a point over the outer end of the bottom providing in connection with the latter and the sides of the body a transverse slot, with which the longitudinal slot connects, horizontal parallel supporting-flanges extending outwardly from the sides of the body at the upper edges thereof and having extensions projecting forward to points approximately in alinernent with the lower forward edge of the body, and a horizontally-arranged oblong weight of rectangular shape in cross-section formed with an outwardly-inclined front end and adapted to be supported on a horizontally-arranged pack of labels and to be moved forward by frictional contact therewith.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of witnesses.
