No. 421,251. Patented Feb. 11,1890.

CARTER B. DEAN, or No RoRNn, MISSOURI.
DRUGGISTS LABEL CASE OR CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 421,251, dated February 11, 1890.
Application filed August 5, 1889, Serial No. 319,742- (No model-) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARTER B. DEAN, of Norborne, Carroll county, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Druggists Label- Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
Myinvention relates to improvements in labeLcabinets; and it consists in a certain novel construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a front View of the cabinet provided with labelholders embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the improved labelholder detached.
, A represents a cabinet of any preferred form provided with a series of drawers B, in which are arranged label holders O in such a position that the labels D contained therein may be readily grasped and withdrawn by the attendant.
In Fig. 1 the dotted lines show holders arranged in the centers of the front ends of the drawers, said drawers also being adapted to contain other articles, such as medicinebottles, 8:0. The holders are secured in place in the drawers by screws passed through the perforations E, thereby enabling them to be secured in place in the drawers of any cabinet.
Fig. 2 shows a tray consisting of a series of boxes or compartments F, having their front ends provided with fingei openings G, to enable the front edges of the labels D, which are shown clearlyin one of the boxes or compartments in Fig. 2, to be raised, and said front ends of the boxes or compartments are also provided with the inwardly-extending stop-ears H, which prevent the displacement of the lower labels when the upper one is withdrawn.
Pressure-springsl are secured at their rear ends to the rear sides of the boxes or compartments, and are curved forwardly and downwardly and bear at their free ends on the labels which are contained in the box,
provided at its front end with an opening G said free ends being bent upward slightly to prevent tearing the labels as they are withdrawn. The bottoms of the boxes close to the finger openings G are provided with small knobs K, which'slightly elevate the front ends of the labels, whereby the last label may be 5 5 grasped as readily as the others. The sides of the boxes are scalloped, their upper edges. being coneaved or cut away, as shown at L, to facilitate the insertion of the labels into the boxes.
From the above it will be seen that each box or compartment forms a complete and independent holder, which may be either used alone or in combination with others, as shown in Fig. 2, each box in the latter case containing one kind of labels only.
My invention relates particularly to the form of the holder, which may be applied to a drawer, as described, or may be arranged in any other position within convenient reach of the attendant, said holder being provided with simple means to enable the desired label to be quickly removed. It is merely necessary for the attendant to insert a finger into the finger opening and engage the free slightly raised edge of the upper label, and then draw the same forward over the upper edge of the stop-ear, said ear preventing the displacement of the remaining labels.
Having thus described my invention, I So claim- 1. In a label-holder, an open-topped box 1 through which a finger may be inserted to engage the edge of a label, and a leaf-spring secured at its rear end to the rear side of the box and bearing downwardly at its free end on the labels, substantially as specified.
2. I11 a label-holder, an open-topped box provided at its front end with an opening G to admit a finger to raise the front edge of a label, combined with a leaf-spring I, secured at its rear end to the rear side of the bdx and bearing at its free front end 011 the labels, and a knob or projection K on the bottom of said box near the opening G to slightly elevate the front edges of thelabels, so that they maybe more easily seized, substantially as specified.
3. In a label-holder, an open-topped box having its sides cut away, as at L, and pro vided at its front end with a finger-opening G and an adjacent stop flange or car II, 00111- 5 bined with a leaf-spring I, secured at one end to the rear side of the box and bearing at its front end on the labels, and the knob K on the bottom of the box adjacent to the finger opening G, substantially as and for the'purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CARTER B. DEAN.
