Description

(No Model.)
0. M. E. GLEESON.
PENGIL HOLDER.
No. 433,938. Patented Aug. 12, 1890.
UNITED STATES ATENT FF C CATHERINE M. E. GLEESON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
PENCIL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,938, dated August 12, 1890.
Application filed March 26 1890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CATHERINE M. E. GLEE- sQN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pencil-Holders, of which the following, with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
My invention relates to pencil-holders. Its object is a pencil-holder which is adapted to be easily attached to books and detached therefrom, and which can be secured to slateframes for the use of pupils in schools and for other persons using books and pencils in employments where it is necessary to have a convenient place for putting away a pencil and taking it up again in their work.
The invention consists in the novel construction of the device described and claimed herein.
Figure 1 illustrates my device attached to the cover of abook. Fig. 2 is an enlarged central longitudinal section of the device, shown in Fig. 1 as attached to a book-cover. Fig. 3 illustrates a modified form of my device attached to the edge of a slate-frame.
My device as applied to the cover of a book,
Serial No. 345.4 11. (N0 model.)
The holder, including the attached hooks,
should be somewhat shorter than the bookcover, so that it will be stretched when attached. This will give it a firm grip upon the edges of the book-cover, and prevent it becoming accidentally detached. The stretching of the rubber will also draw the loops at to their centers and make a firmer grip upon a pencil or pen-holder held by them.
What I claim as my invention is- A pencil-holder consisting of a strip A of flexible material provided with loops a, formed integrally therewith, and having hooks B at each end adapted to engage the edges of a book-cover, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I a'ffix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 19th day of March, 1890.
Witnesses:
JAs. GLEEsON, J. A. OSBORNE.
