UNITE FRANKLIN 'K. DEXTER, OF WELD, MAINE.
MEMORANDUM-TABLET.
Epecification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2 1 1 908.
Application file'l September 28. 1907 Serial No. 394201.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN K. DEXTER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Weld, in the county of Franklin and State of Maine, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Memoramhim-Tablets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in memorandum tablets and more particularly to one which may be applied to a watch to remind. the owner of engagements and duties. The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in construction and which may be quickly and easily applied to or removed from a watch and which will be very effective in accomplishing its intended. purpose.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of a tablet having one or more faces or surfaces upon which may be written in lead. pencil or other erasible material, memorandum of the engagements and duties for the day, and an attaching means by which the tablet may be hung from the neck or stem of a watch so that the owner will be reminded of his engagements and duties every time he looks at his watch.
The invention further consists of the novel features of construction and the combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing it applied to a watch; Fig. 2 is a sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the tablet supporting and attaching member is formed.
The invention comprises a suitable tablet 1 having one or more surfaces uponwhich memoranda may be placed and a member 2 for supporting a tablet and attaching it to a watch. The tablet 1 is here shown as in the form of a disk or circular piece of celluloid or some material upon which pencil or ink marks may be readily made and from which they may be conveniently erased. This tablet, however, may be ofany other suitable form and construction upon which memoranda may be placed. The supporting and attaching member 2-is preferably constructed of some soft flexible material such as leather and it is also preferably formed from a single piece by stamping and cutting the same to provide the blank shown in Fig. 3. It comprises two substantially circular portions 3, 4 united by an intermediate or neck portion 5'. The end portions 3, 4 may be of other than circular shape but they are preferably made as shown so that when folded. into parallel relation they are adapted to receive the watch between them and to serve as a protective covering for the same. The tablet 1 is connected to the end portion or piece 3 by glue, cement or any other suitable fastening device or devices, and in the end portion or piece 4 is formed a slit or opening 6 which communicates with a circular aperture 7 formed in the neck 5. The opening 7 is of such size as to receive the neck or stem of the watch and the slit 6 is provided to enable the watch stem to be inserted in said opening. It will be seen that owing to the flexibility of the member 2 the slit 6 and opening 7 may be readily enlarged by stretching said member so that the ring and head upon the stem of the watch may be readily passed through the portion or piece 4 and the small lower portion of the stem or neck of the watch inserted in the opening 7 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
- From theforegoing it willbe senthatmyinvention provides'a simple and practical memorandum device which will be exceedingly effective in accomplishing its intended purpose. The attachment of a memorandum tablet to a watch insures the tablet being frequently seen by the owner of the watch. Owing to the peculiar construction of the member 2 the device may be quickly and easily applied to or removed froma watch and it occupies but little space and does not interfere with the ready use of the watch. By making said member of leather or other soft material and of the form shown it will be seen that it will serve as a protective covering and cushion. Owing to the construction of the member 2 it will be also noted that when removed from the watch it may be folded flat and conveniently carried in ones pocket. Owing to the simple construction of the device it will be seen that it may be manufactured at a small cost and may therefore be eflectively used as an advertising medium. Suitable advertising matter may be printed or otherwise placed upon the outer face of the portion or piece 4 or upon other portions of the device.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the precise showing herein set forth,
and that various changes in the form proportion and minor details may be resorted to within the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is:
1, A device of the character described comprising a memorandum tablet and a supporting and attaching member consisting of end portions to receive awatch between them and an intermediate portion to engage the stem of the watch, said tablet beingcarried by one of said end portions.
2. A device of the character described comprising a memorandum tablet, a supporting and attaching member made from a single blank of flexible material having end portions united by an intermediate connecting portion, the latter being formed with an aperture to receive the stem of a watch, one of said end portions being formed with a slit opening into said aperture, the memorandum tabletbeing attached to the other end portion of said member.
8. A device of the character described,
aperture, the opening being adapted to re ceive the stem of the watch and the slit permitting of the insertion of the head of the stem, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
