. CALENDAR No.510,262. Patented 1360.5,1893.
rs TATES ATENT Fries.
CHARLES HUDSON, OF NE'W YORK, N. Y.
CALENDAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,262, dated December 5, 1893.
/ Application filed March 28, 1893- Serial No. 468,091- (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. HUDSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, certify that I have invented a certain new and useful Calendar, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to calendars designed and arranged to be used in connection with the covers, lids, or other portions of boxes, cases or receptacles of various sorts and it has for its object the provision of a device simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture and efficient in practical use.
To attain the desired end my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts first described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings which form apart of this specification Figure 1 represents my calendar case taken in perspective. Fig. 2. is a plan View of the exterior of the cover of the same; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken through the said cover.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views. 7
Referring again to the drawings, A represents the cover of a box B, containing in this instance a pad B commonly known and desig nated as a self inking pad for use with rubber stamps. The outer and inner sides or faces of the cover A, are both preferably provided with a series of numerals A, designating the dates of the days of a monththirty-one in allthe said numerals being preferably arranged in circular configuration and being printed, stamped, cemented upon, or otherwise impressed on or affixed to the said cover A. Around or on opposite sides of the said series of numerals A, I arrange thenames of the various calendar months as A the same being preferably ornamental in style and symmetrical in appearance. Within the series of numerals A is pivotedahand O, constructed and arranged to designate some particular numeral. This hand 0, is ordinarily attached to a sleeve C ,which extends through the cover A, and supports another hand 0', rigidly secured thereto; although the two hands 0, and C, may be supported in a movable relation as regards each other if preferred. Anotherhand D, is ordinarily fastened to a spindle D passing through the sleeve 0 and is constructed and arranged to point to and to designate some one of the calendar months displayed on the said cover. The opposite extremity of the spindle D carries another hand D', which is preferably rigidly secured to the hand D. In cases where the pair of hands 0 and C, and also the pair of hands D, and D, are not rigidly attached and move independently of each other, the said names and numerals will be ar ranged similarly on each face of the cover A; but if the hands 0 and O are rigidly secured together, and the hands D, and D, are also rigidly attached, the order of the date numerals and the names of the calendar months will have to be reversed upon one of the faces of the cover A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
As it is evident that many slight changes in the construction and relative arrangement of parts might be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention I would have it understood that I do not restrict myself to the particular construction and arrangement of parts shown and described but that I reserve the right to make such changes, and that What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a box calendar, a movable hinged cover provided upon its exterior and interior faces with a series of calendar dates, said dates reading from left to right upon one face and from right to left upon the other face, in combination with two hands or pointers both rigidly engaged or fastened together and concentrically supported by the said back, one pointing to a date upon the exterior, and the other pointing to the same date upon the interior face of said back, one hand being always exposed to View whether the said back is in an elevated or open, or else in a closed relation. 7
2. In a calendar, a movable hinged support or back, as a box cover, provided upon its exterior and interior faces with a series of calendar dates, and with the names of the months, the said dates and names being reversed upon the two faces, in combination with two pairs of hands or pointers all concentrically supdo hereby sign the same, in the city of New ported by the said back, one pair of hands York, county and State of New York, this 6th [0 pointing to a date and name upoll1lthe exterior day of February, A. D. 1893. and t e other pair pointing to t e same date 5 and name upon the interior face of said back, CHARLEb HUDSON the two date hands and the two month hands \Vitnesses: being rigidly attached together. J. ODELL FOWLER, J r., In testimony of the foregoing specification I \VM. M. V. FOWLER.
