UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. HUGHES, OF YVESTERLY, RIIODE ISLAND.-
CALENDAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 413,368, dated October 22, 1889.
Application filed December 13, 1888. Serial No. 293,526. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. HUGHES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westerly, in the county of Washington and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendars; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new, ornamental, and durable device in calendars that can be used any number of years and during any part of a year. It can be made in different designs, one of which is an old-fashioned clock, as shown.
In the drawings,A represents a printed figure of an old-fashioned clock.
E represents aconnecting-strip or pendulum fastened at its upper end at the point 1 by an eyelet on the back of the card or calendar and coming through the slit D, having attached to it at its lower end by a similar eyelet 2 a table B, containing the days of the week, which can be moved on the strip to either the right or left in order to set the calendar for the whole month.
C is a table containing the days of the month, or atahle containing a figure for each separate day in the month, arranged in appropriate columns.
Figure l is a perspective view of my invention. In Fig. 2 is a table F, showing the number of days in each month and the date of each Sunday in every month, and can be extended to cover any desired number of years.
It can thus be seen that to set the calendar for the entire month the day-table B is to be moved either to the right or left until the first day of the week appears over the dates given in the table F, Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A calendar having the representation of a clock or other suitable design printed thereon, with the connecting or swinging strip E, the slit D, the fastening-eyelets 1 and 2, the movable or swinging day-table B, fastened to the strip E and over the date-table O, the said table 0, and the monthly table F, substantially as specified.
2. A calendar showing the clock or other suitable design, the swinging strip E, having its upper end secured by an eyelet, the slit D, the movable day-table B, secured to the strip E at its lower end by an eyelet and hanging over the date-table C, the said table 0, and the monthly table F under the said design, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. JOHN II. HUGHES.
