f WIFLLIAM'W. WHITE, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
To all whom it may concern: i 1
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. WHITE, a citizen of theUnitedStates, and resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and btate of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Calendars, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide removable and reversible indicating tabs having hinged tongues for insertion in grooves along a calendar board, the tongues being shaped to frictionally engage the s de walls of the grooves to prevent their un1ntentional removal.
Another object is to make the tabs of such a length that their freeends will snap over the hinges of adjoining tabs for holding the tabs snugly against the face of the board. 7
Another object is to provide each number indicating tab with the number on one side distinguished from the same number on the other side so that the Sundays and other holidays in any month may be indicated by reversing the required tabs.
Another object is to provide a very inexpensive and attractive calendar which will be useful for a period of years.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying draw ings, in whioh- Figure 1 is a front VlGW of my improved calendar,
Fig. 2 is a detail back view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a considerably enlarged detail section taken in the plane of the line III-III of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a detail front view of one of the numeral indicating pads,
Fig. 5 is a section taken in the plane of the line V-V of Fig. 4, Fig. 6 isa back view of the numeral indicating tab,
Fig. 7 is a section taken in the plane of the line VII-VII of Fig. 6,
Fig. 8 is a front view of a month lndicating tab,
Fig. 9 is a detail back vlew of the same,
Fig. 10 is a front view'of a year 1ndieating tab, and c Fig. 11 is a back view of the same.
The front face of the calendar board 1 is provided with a number of transversely arranged parallel grooves, the groove 2 ha Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 15, 1920,
Application filed July 31, 1918. 7 Serial No.247,528. i
CALENDAR.
bears the days of the week arranged transversely across the same, in the present instance by providing a strip 12 of metal or other suitable sheet materialsecured to the board.
All of the tabs are reversible, the opposite faces of the year indicating tabs bearing numbers of differentyears and the opposite faces of the month indicating tabs bearing different months so as to reduce the number of tabs to a minimum.
The number on one side of each of the number indicating tabs is distinguished from the same number on the other side of the said tab, as, for instance, by printing the numbers in different colors so that the Sundays and other holidays in any one month may be indicated by reversing the required number indicating tab.
The tongues on all of the tabs are so shaped that they will frictionally engage the side walls of the grooves when inserted therein to hold the tabs against unintentional removal. This may be accomplished by bending the-tongues as indicated at 13.
The number indicating tabs are sufiiciently long so that when placed in position their free ends will have to be snapped over the hinges 14: of adjoining tabs. This will cause the tabs to be held snugly against the face of the calendar board.
It is intended that the tabs shall be made of thin sheet material, such, for instance, as sheet metal.
If so desired, blank tabs may beprovided for the blank spaces left by the rearrangement of the number indicating tabs for different months and by the removal of the later numbers for months of a lesser number of days.
What I claim is 1. A calendar comprising aboard having shaped to frictionally engage the WflllSOf the grooves when inserted therein, to prevent the-unintentional removal of thetabs.
V 3. A calendar comprising a board havingparallel grooves along its face and reversible indicating tabs having, hinged tongues fitted to be inserted in said grooves, the tabs being of such lengththat their free ends will snap over the hingesof adjoining tabs to hold the tabs snugly against the board.)
4. A calendar comprising a board having parallel grooves along its front and back faces and reversible indicating tabs having hinged tongues fitted to be inserted in said grooves, the grooves in the back face of the board being designed to hold the tabs not being used on the front face of the board.
In testimony that -I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 29th'day of July, 1918. a i
' WILLIAM W; WHITE.
