it known rl oi: the United 1AM B. WVHITE, a s, and resident of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Cigar-(Jase Holder, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a case for receiving a lighted cigar, having a hinged cover provided with means whereby the cover may be yieldingly held either in its open or closed position.

A further object is to provide such a case raring a yielding device, preferably formed thereon and extending into the upper portion of the case when closed for frictionally gripping and holding a cigar.

My invention con ists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contempla ted are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Tl'lfi hinge for the members 10 and 11 is preferablyformed by means of spaced hearing members 12 formed on the cover member, and alined spaced bearing members 13 formed on the casing member 10. Extended through the bearing members is a pintle 14.

The two middle bearing members are formed on the cover member and the bearing members ust outside the two middle members are formed on the edge of the member 10.

Secured to the under side of two of the members 13 and extending across the central portion of the hinge below, the hinge is a Hat spring 15.

of and substantially'at the center of the cover member from end to end, is a camshaped plate 16, shown somewhat in detail in Fig. 5. The plate 16 is so arranged with relation to the spring 15 that when the cover member is closed, as shown in Fig. 4, a flat face A of the cam 16 will ongage the'flat spring 15 and tend to hold the cover in its closed position. When, however, the cover is raised to open position, another flat edge of the cam will engage the spring, which tends to hold the cover in its open position.

The edge of the case member 10, opposite the hinge line thereof, has an upwardly and inwardly extending flange 17 adapted to be overlapped by the cover member 11 when the cover member is closed.

Curved upwardly and inwardly from the central portion of the flange 17 is a finger 18, shown in Figs. 3 and 4, made of resilient material and so arranged that when the cigar 19 is placed in the case 10 it may he slipped under the huge 18, which will then tend to hold the cigar against movement while it is in the case.

The advantage of a device of this kind is largely obvious from the foregoing description.

The case may be used as an advertising novelty and any suitable information may be printed or otherwise marked. on the out side of the casing or on the inside thereof if desired.

hen the case is closed the case member and the cover member 11 are designed to form a comparatively tight joint, so that not enough air is supplied to the interior of the case to keep a cigar lighted. Therefore when the cigar is placed in the case it will quickly go out.

vVhen it is desired to take the cigar out of the case, the cover is opened and will be automatically locked in its open position and the cigar may be removed from the finger 18 for smoking.

Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my improved cigar case, without departing from its essential features and purposes,

and it is my intention to cover by this application any such changes which included within the scope of my I claim as my invention: 1. A cigar case comprising an elongated casing member, a cover member hinged may be claims.

2. A cigar case comprising an elongated case member, adapted to receive a cigar and to two of the bearing members on the case, a cam-faced plate secured to the cover memher and adapted to coact with said spring, so that when the cover member is open the spring will yieldingly hold it in such position, and when the cover member is closed, the spring will hold it against opening, said case having an inwardly and upwardly extending flange along its longitudinal edge opposite its side, and a resilient finger curved inwardly from the central portion of said flange for engaging and holding a cigar.
